The mural is developed through successive transparent washes, allowing the foliage, atmosphere, and distant forms to remain luminous rather than heavily opaque. This layered glazing process is one of MIKRA’s signatures: color is built gradually, so depth emerges through transparency, tonal restraint, and controlled transitions.

Its softened greens, warm yellows, and pale blue undertones were composed to complement the room’s dark cabinetry, metallic accents, and neutral furnishings. The result is a botanical surface that lightens the interior, extends the sense of space, and introduces color without overwhelming the room.

A late Victorian–inspired floral interior shaped by color and ornament.

Hand-painted roses and trailing foliage unfold across a warm parchment ground, recalling the floral rooms of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, when botanical ornament and chinoiserie influences enriched intimate interiors. Deep green wainscoting, dark timber, arched details, and the tall mirror reinforce the period character, while repeated reflections amplify the mural’s rhythm and theatrical charm.

Some projects demand more than artistic skill—they demand absolute trust in the process.

This ceiling was painted nearly four floors above the ground, completely concealed behind scaffolding for most of the project. Once work began, there was no opportunity to step back and see the whole composition from the floor below. Every molding, rosette, shadow, highlight, and architectural proportion had to be resolved long before the first brushstroke touched the ceiling.

Our process began with the architect's reflected ceiling plan. From there, we developed our own architectural layout, refining the proportions of the moldings, coffers, and decorative elements to suit the space. Before installation, we produced a full-scale mock-up to study the interaction of light, form shadows, cast shadows, and chiaroscuro—ensuring every illusion would read correctly from the viewer's perspective.

By the time we climbed the scaffolding, the decisions had already been made. What remained was disciplined ex*****on.

This is how MIKRA Murals & Faux Finishes approaches architectural murals: not by improvisation, but through rigorous planning, precise design, and an understanding that the success of an illusion is determined long before the paint is applied.
