+ The lock can just be picked. Are all keys same?

The lock we use for the Grip-Lock is the most sofisticated lock for this kind of application and does not function like a normal lock that has wafers that get pushed outwards by the key. Our lock uses discs that get pushed backwards. This means any standard lock pick kit is absolutely useless against the Grip-Lock - it would be like trying to cut sushi with a butter knife.
There are 10,000 combinations for the sofisticated laser cut key and these can not be duplicated in an ordinary locksmith shop.

+ It looks like Grip-Lock can be pulled off sideways!

Every Grip-Lock comes with 3 rubber adapters (small/medium/large) to ensure a snug fit to throttle grips between 27 and 38 mm (1.05” to 1.5”), which would make it hard in itself to just pull it off.

Add to that the fact that:
a) most motorcycle grips fl**ge out towards the end and
b) there is usually a ball at the end of the brake and it becomes clear that that certainly
isn’t an option.

Keep in mind that 90% of motorcycle theft is opportunistic and a thief aims to drive off with the motorcycle he just stole. A motorcycle with a Grip-Lock still stuck to the throttle grip and without a front brake lever is not only very noticeable to everyone who sees the thief, but also hard to ride. A thief will simply choose less protected ride to steal...

Since there is pressure on the brake, a thief will have to punch the bolt out. That takes time and creates noise, both undesirable to a thief. Statistics say that a normal motorcycle theft takes less than 2 minutes and visual deterrents are the major first line of defense.

+ Is Grip-Lock made of plastic?


Grip-Lock has 4 hardened steel cores (same material as prison bars) and is covered by
30% glass-filled polyamide for maximum strength, weather and UV resistance.
Glass-filled polyamide we use is manufactured by BASF, world’s largest chemical producer, headquartered in Germany.
This material is really strong; they make air intake manifolds for cars from that material these days. Neither a saw nor a screwdriver will do much to the Grip-Lock. Check testing videos here.

+ What are benefits of Grip-Lock over disc-locks?

There are number of benefits that Grp-Lock provides. The number one would be that you can not forget that your ride is locked when Grip-Lock is used. Contrary to that is a disc lock that can be easily forgotten and to start driving before removing it from your front or back disc.
By gripping a throttle and front brake lever, Grip-Lock is the most visual deterrent for thieves.
At the same time, a bike owner can not move the bike before unlocking Grip-Lock. In other words, you can not forget that the bike is locked.

Thieves will quickly avoid Grip-Locked bike and choose a ride that is easier and faster to steal. A thief with a helmet beside him or on his head can get on his knees and try to open your disc lock, hiding what he is doing without being obvious or suspicious. A thief trying to open Grip-Lock by force can hardly hide his intentions...

To mount a disc lock you have to bend down or get on your knee, find the right hole on the disc, mount your disc lock, lock it by turning a key and then stretch your orange 'reminder leash' between a disc lock and a handlebar... if you decide to stretch it. Most people don't use a 'remider leash' and that leads to forgetting about the lock on your disc and possibly encoutering embarresing falls.

As well, you can use Grip-Lock as a parking brake if parked on a sloope. Disc locs can not be used the same way because they are most commonly mounted at the most accessible spot, and that is in front of a calliper on front wheel. That allows front wheel to roll a few feet before it ends up behind a calliper. Same goes for leaving your ride on a kick-stand. A little push on a bike can result in the bike falling down. By using Grip-Lock your front wheel is fully locked by the applied brake and the bike can not be pushed off the stand.

Disc locks of good quality are usually heavy, sometimes over 1kg in weight. Grip-Lock weights only 330 g. and it is easy to store it.

Disc locks are usually dirty and greasy after prolonged use. It is hard to get Grip-Lock dirtier than your handlebars and grips.

Grip-Lock is a time saver!!! It takes less then 5 seconds to mount or take off your Grip-Lock. It takes on average more then 30 seconds to mount a disc lock. Put it on and take it off 2 times a day over 6 months and you will spend 60 minutes with Grip-Lock and over 360 minutes (minimum 6 hours) with an average disc lock. If your disc lock has an alarm feature you may spend even more time by activating and deactivating it. That simply means 5+ more hours of free time for your rides per season - if you chose to discart your disc lock and use Grip-Lock!
