FIVE DECADES LATER, BUILDING CODE UNDER SCRUTINY

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered a review of the National Building Code, nearly 50 years after it was enacted in 1977, to assess its relevance amid modern construction practices, urban growth and rising climate risks.

The DPWH says the move aims to update safety standards and align infrastructure rules with current engineering realities.
