If hiring a licensed Architect to design your project feels expensive, remember this:
You are not simply paying for drawings—you are investing in professional knowledge, safety, and accountability.
Under Civil Code of the Philippines, Article 1723 (Republic Act No. 386), the Architect and Engineers who prepared the plans and specifications of a building may be held liable for damages if, within 15 years from the completion of the structure, it collapses due to defects in the plans and specifications or defects in the ground.
This is why hiring a licensed professional matters. An Architect carries professional responsibility that protects both the client and the public. Someone without the proper professional license does not carry the same legal accountability under this provision.
Example:
If a building failure results in ₱15,000,000 worth of damages, and the liability period is divided over 15 years:
₱15,000,000 ÷ 15 years = ₱1,000,000 per year
₱1,000,000 ÷ 12 months = ₱83,333 per month
That means the responsibility attached to a professional’s work can be equivalent to tens of thousands of pesos every month for 15 years—a reminder that architectural fees are not just payments for service, but compensation for expertise, accountability, and the risk carried by the professional.
Doing things right the first time may seem costly, but correcting design mistakes, structural issues, and unsafe decisions later will always cost far more.

Conclusion:
Good design is not an expense. It is an investment in safety, quality, and peace of mind.
