Mulching is the process of covering the soil surface with a layer of material to conserve moisture, improve soil health, reduce w**d growth, and enhance the visual appeal of an area. Itโ€™s commonly used in gardening, landscaping, and agriculture.

Types of Mulch
1. Organic Mulch
โ€ข Derived from natural materials that decompose over time.
โ€ข Examples:
โ€ข Wood chips
โ€ข Bark
โ€ข Straw
โ€ข Grass clippings
โ€ข Leaves
โ€ข Compost

2. Inorganic Mulch
โ€ข Made from synthetic or non-decomposing materials.
โ€ข Examples:
โ€ข Plastic sheeting
โ€ข Landscape fabric
โ€ข Gravel or stones
โ€ข Rubber mulch

Benefits of Mulching
โ€ข Moisture Retention: Reduces evaporation, helping soil stay moist longer.
โ€ข W**d Suppression: Blocks sunlight, reducing w**d growth.
โ€ข Temperature Regulation: Keeps soil cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
โ€ข Erosion Control: Reduces runoff and soil erosion during rains.
โ€ข Soil Enrichment (organic mulch): Adds nutrients and encourages microbial activity.
โ€ข Aesthetic Appeal: Provides a tidy, finished look to garden beds and landscapes.

Best Practices
โ€ข Apply mulch 2โ€“4 inches deep for effective coverage.
โ€ข Keep mulch a few inches away from plant stems or tree trunks to prevent rot.
โ€ข Replenish organic mulch as it decomposes.

Coco husk (also called coconut husk or coco chips) is the fibrous outer shell of a coconut. When processed, itโ€™s usually chopped into small chunks or shredded. Itโ€™s different from coco coir, which is the finer, dust-like material from the husk.

Benefits of coco husk in gardening:

โ€ขWater retention: Coco husk holds water very well but also drains excess water, preventing root rot.
โ€ขAeration: It improves soil structure by making it lighter and giving roots more air.
โ€ขLongevity: It breaks down slower than regular mulch, lasting longer in soil.
โ€ขOrganic: Itโ€™s a natural, renewable material thatโ€™s eco-friendly.
โ€ขRoot health: The chunky texture prevents soil compaction, letting roots grow freely.
โ€ขPest resistance: It doesnโ€™t attract pests easily compared to other organic mulches.
โ€ขpH neutral: It generally has a balanced pH, safe for most plants.
โ€ขW**d control: When used as mulch, it can suppress w**ds by blocking sunlight.

Itโ€™s commonly used for orchids, hydroponics, and as mulch for vegetable gardens.

Family: Araceae.
Origin: Tropical regions of South and Central America.

This plant catches the eye with its large green leaves accented with beautiful red stems. In its natural habitat, its vigorous vines can reach up to 4m in height. For this reason, it is highly valued for its climbing appearance. Due to the size of its foliage, it is important to clean it regularly to avoid an accumulation of dust on it.
This plant is commonly known as the blushing philodendron or red-leaf philodendron, known for its reddish stems and sometimes reddish-tinted leaves.

๐˜ฟ๐™€๐™Ž๐˜พ๐™๐™„๐™‹๐™๐™„๐™Š๐™‰:
Calathea Louisae is also called Thai Beauty. They are easily grown and best for prayer plants collector who are into a dark green to light green foliage. This also has a touch of purple on the underside.

Plant height: 5 to 7 inches, minimum of 4 leaves
Pot diameter: 5 to 6 inches

๐™ƒ๐™„๐™Ž๐™๐™Š๐™๐™”
The origin of Calathea plants comes from the wildernesses of the Amazon in South America, in concealed zones underneath thick vegetation or exceptionally tall trees. Calatheas or Maranta gets their nickname of โ€˜Prayer Plantโ€™ in view of a cycle called nyctinasty. During the day, their leaves open to get daylight, and around evening time overlay upwards, as though they are โ€œsupplicatingโ€. There is a specific joint found in the stem of Calatheas that permits them to open and close for the duration of the day.

๐˜พ๐˜ผ๐™๐™€ ๐™‚๐™๐™„๐˜ฟ๐™€
This Calathea flourishes best in bright indirect sunlight where they can have optimum growth. Direct sunlight may make it lose its tones. Besides, it can also burn your plantโ€™s leaves or your Calathea may fold its leaves attempting to shield itself from brutal direct daylight.

The suggested watering schedule for the Calathea Louisae is once to two times a week or when the top 2 to 3 inches of the soil has dried out. This indoor plant in Manila loves its soil moist, however not soggy. So make sure not to let it stay with standing water. While itโ€™s fine to use tap water, lukewarm rainwater or distilled water has great advantages for this plant too. Drooping Calatheas may mean that it needs watering already. Meanwhile, browning and yellowing in their leaves may be due to inconsistent watering. But always remember that an underwatered plant is easier to revive than an overwatered one

๐™‹๐™๐™Š๐™‹๐˜ผ๐™‚๐˜ผ๐™๐™„๐™Š๐™‰
This Calathea Louisae can be best propagated through the division method when repotting. Take out the plant from its soil and youโ€™ll see that the roots are all tangled up together. Simply separate the stems carefully with your hands and plant them in individual pots. Make sure that the sectionsโ€™ roots are still intact, and that theyโ€™re cared for as you would with a normal Calathea. Rooting should take place in about a month or so!

Dumb cane 'Honeydew' is one of many varieties of Dieffenbachia, named for its striking yellow-green honey-dewed leaves, which will make a perfect tropical accent for your living room, bathroom, or workspace. It tolerates indoor conditions well, preferring lower light and an indoor temperature of 15โ€“30 ยฐC.
