The Modern Waterfront House Design by EAB Design Studio.
Most waterfront homes in the Philippines feature a more vernacular style of Architecture. With Large Canopies, traditional windows, and a façade with an overhaul of native wood materials. These traditionally serene and straightforward holiday cottages are found in almost all regions of the country. The Modern Waterfront Home tries to reimagine what a typical waterfront home looks like, by incorporating a more modern contemporary architectural language for a rural hideaway.
The Modern Waterfront House sits on a 417 square meter sloping terrain property with panoramic and scenic views of the vast shoreline. The design aims to create an atmosphere that, at its core, naturally celebrates the outdoors and harmonizes it with the modern functions of indoor spaces. The scenic views of the surroundings and preserving the natural environment as much as possible are paramount in the design.
The design of this home features a simple open plan footprint that focuses views away from adjoining properties, and towards the beautiful views of the shore. Neutral or muted colors with light wood accents were selected for the façade design, and long cantilevers to accentuate the spaces on the 2nd floor and serve as sunshades for the spaces on the Ground Floor. Bright colors were selected for the interiors to give the space a more diverse, and airy feel that naturally flows into the outdoor spaces.
The 2nd Floor houses the 3 bedrooms of this modern home with a family area that naturally transitions to the expansive scenic balcony which features the natural panoramic views of the property from a higher vantage point. One of the major design innovations of this project is the Window Space Conversion System, where floor-to-ceiling sliding windows with integrated tempered glass railings are put in place to naturally convert your interior bedroom space to a modern balcony.
The Design maintained the natural sloping topography of the property, combining a contemporary strategy while paying homage to regional architectural customs and building traditions. To make the most of the sloping terrain, the design incorporates terraced gardens that serve as practical access points to the shoreline while accentuating the natural topography of the lot. Large patios, an infinity pool, outdoor dining, a waterfront deck, and a small pier were strategically placed to amplify this home’s outdoor activities.
