NEW FLOOD WALL PROTECTS COMMUNITY ALONG CAGAYAN RIVER IN ANGADANAN, ISABELA
Residents of Barangay Centro 3, Angadanan, Isabela, now have enhanced protection from flooding and riverbank erosion following the completion of a flood control structure along the Cagayan River.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed a 313.60-linear meter double-slope concrete revetment on steel sheet piles. The structure is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. administration’s “Build Better More” program, which seeks to implement long-term, sustainable solutions for disaster risk reduction and infrastructure resilience.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region II Director Mathias L. Malenab, emphasized that the flood control system is a long-awaited solution for Barangay Centro 3, which has historically suffered from rising river levels during heavy rains.
Engineered to withstand the powerful and fast-moving waters of the Cagayan River, the structure provides a strong and stable barrier that helps prevent further erosion and flooding in the area.
“With this new infrastructure, we are not only safeguarding communities but also paving the way for long-term growth and security of this locality,” said Director Malenab.
Implemented by the DPWH Isabela 3rd District Engineering Office, the project was funded under the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA) through the DPWH Regular Infrastructure Program, with a total contract amount of P77.1 million.
