Shahi, who was a craftsman at heart. In Afghanistan, he built a thriving business selling handwoven Afghan rugs, known for their quality, beauty, and deep cultural roots. My grandmother, with her skilled hands, worked beside him, and together they brought life to countless beautiful rugs that carried the soul of our homeland. The Soviet-Afghan conflict shattered everything—my grandfather, Shahi, lost his business, and he made the ultimate sacrifice, becoming a martyr in the battle for his homeland. We were forced to leave everything behind and migrate to Pakistan, carrying only memories of a past that seemed lost forever. His dedication, his passion for his craft, and his commitment to preserving the beauty of Afghan art became my guiding light. The pain of losing him and the history of our family’s work pushed me to rebuild what was broken, to honor his memory, and to keep the legacy alive. That’s when I decided to create The Shahi Rugs—a brand that not only celebrates the art of rug-making but also pays homage to my grandfather’s spirit. I wanted to bring back the elegance, the stories, and the tradition of Afghan craftsmanship, with the same pride my grandfather had when he first started. Why “The Shahi Rugs”?
