The Radical Raccommodeuse,

the figurehead for a new community in Calais. Raccommodeuses did the final repair-work in the old Calais lace industry. The prefix of radical defines repair as an anarchic counter-power against doctrines of control. As well as caring for the non-human, such as decaying buildings and belongings, the camaraderie of lace-work is rekindled from the mutual toil of attending to disintegration. A community emerges from this repair, embracing disorder and diversity through a cabaretesque conduct of dissent and feedback. The project imagines this community reclaiming sites and making tools for the people to engage in discourse and make direct, democratic decisions on the issues in which they are protagonists.
