I am currently hosting a yard sale for the weekend, with some assistance and company from my mother (who is herself starting her own hustle business). All of my plants that I have advertised for the week will be available for people to see amd purchase in-person, alongside my mother's own handcrafted goods and a small variety of miscellaneous items

I will be outside and open for sales up from 8:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m across today and tommorow. If you are interested in anything that is on offer, please feel free to come on by to Esteves. We are just across from the Colmado La Familia. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Estoy organizando una venta de garaje este fin de semana, con la ayuda y compañía de mi madre (quien también está empezando su propio negocio). Todas las plantas que he anunciado para la semana estarán disponibles para que la gente las vea y las compre en persona, junto con las artesanías de mi madre y una pequeña variedad de artículos varios.

Ayer abrí y probé mi primera parcha que cultivé de mis propias vides de parcha. La cáscara de esta fruta es bastante fina, por lo que la cantidad de fruta editable es pequeña; sin embargo, esperaba esto hasta cierto punto, dada la forma en que cultivo la fruta a partir de la semilla, y la variedad genética natural que surge de esto significará que cada espécimen producirá fruta de manera diferente. Pero la calidad del fruto comestible era rica y dulce.

Por extraño que parezca, los parchas que están en la vid han tardado bastante en madurar de color amarillo de esta manera. Tengo muchas frutas que son aproximadamente del mismo tamaño que la que se muestra aquí, pero todavía están verdes a pesar de no haber sido tocadas en la vid durante al menos un mes y medio. Quizás simplemente estoy impaciente, pero mi abuelo también ha notado cómo el lote de guineos de su árbol no ha madurado desde que se formó por primera vez hace dos meses; más bien, parece como si su desarrollo se hubiera estancado. Tengo la esperanza de que los frutos maduren eventualmente.

Yesterday, I cut open an tasted my first passionfruit that I grew from my own passionfruit vines. The rind on this fruit is rather think, so the quantity of editable fruit is small; however, I did expect this to a degree given how I am growing the fruit from seed, and the natural genetic variety that comes from this will mean that each specimen will produce fruit differently. But the quality of the edible fruit was rich and sweet.

Oddly enough, the passionfruits that are on the vine have been taking a decent while to mature yellow like this. I have many fruits that are about the same size as the one pictured here, but they are still green despite being untouched on the vine for at least a month and a half. Mabey I am just impatient, but my grandfather has also noticed how the batch of bananas on his tree have not matured since their first formed two months ago; rather, it appears as if their development has stalled. I do have hope that the fruits will ripen up eventually.

To end this entry, I would like to share a quote that resonates with me and that I hope will be an encouragement for you today: "In a world full of hate, it is so important to be a good person." I hope you all have a good Thursday.

Como algunos de ustedes sabrán, a mi madre le apasionan las artes y las manualidades. En mayo, mi madre y yo tuvimos la idea conjunta de pintar contenedores de jardín con diseños elegantes para aumentar las ventas para plantar en interiores y exteriores (y también para guardar cubiertos para picnics, si uno no quería usarlos para plantar).

Tenía la intención de llevar yo misma contenedores para pintar junto a mi madre, pero mis estudios en la escuela técnica me retrasaron hasta este mes. Diría que este diseño tardó aproximadamente 3 semanas en completarse y, siendo mi primer gran proyecto artístico en mucho tiempo, estoy bastante satisfecho con el resultado final. Se me ocurrió la idea de un recipiente que tuviera la frase "Vamos a darle sabor a las cosas" junto con imágenes de un gallo (inspirado en mi propia experiencia con Tun-Tun, que en realidad puede ser un gallo). Tenía la intención de vender este recipiente con algunas plantas de albahaca, romero y culantro en macetas; pero como esas hierbas son demasiado jóvenes en este momento para venderlas, decidí incluir solo los contenedores en Facebook Marketplace.

So as some of you may be aware, my mother has a passion for arts and crafts. Back in May, my mother and I had a joint idea of painting garden containers with elegant designs to upsell for interior and exterior planting (and also for holding silverware for picnics, if one did not want to use them for planting).

I intended to take containers myself to paint alongside my mother, but my studies at the technical school delayed me from starting until this month. I would say that this design took about 3 weeks to complete, and for being my first major art project in a while I am quite pleased at the final outcome. I have had the idea of a container that had the line "Let's spice things up" alongside imagery of a rooster (inspired from my own experience with Tun-Tun, who may actually be a rooster). I intended to sell this container with some basil, rosemary, and culantro plants potted into it; but as those herbs are too young at the moment to sell them off, I decided to list the containers alone on Facebook Marketplace.

Ayer, limpié la esquina más trasera de la propiedad (lo mejor que pude, ya que no hay un buen lugar para esos tubos largos) para colocar mi segundo contenedor de enredaderas de parchas en la cerca adyacente.

En comparación con el primer contenedor de maracuyá que puse en la cerca, estas enredaderas han crecido notablemente más vigorosamente. No he estado usando fertilizantes ni pesticidas, solo buena tierra y probablemente un pollo para airear la tierra. Sin embargo, las parchas del primer contenedor están empezando a ponerse al día.

Debido a que las plantas habían estado originalmente en macetas pequeñas esperando ser vendidas durante la mayor parte de su año de vida, están atrofiadas y necesitan más tiempo para crecer antes de comenzar a producir; Sin embargo, se recuperan rápidamente, por lo que espero verlos produciendo el próximo año.

Yesterday, I cleared up the backmost corner of the property (as best as I can, as there is no good place for those long tubes) to place my second container of passionfruit vines onto the adjacent fence.

When compared to the first container of passionfruits I put on the fence, these vines have been noticeably more vigorous growers. I haven't been using any fertilizers or pesticides– just good soil and probably a chicken to aerate the soil.

The passionfruits in the first container are starting to catch up, though. Because the plants had originally been in small pots waiting to be sold for most of their life year, they are stunted and need extra time to grow before they start producing; they are quick to recover, however, so I expect to see them producing by the next year.

I took the majority of this day to work on cleaning up the outside of the house. I am still not fully done with my work, but the permiter is looking far better– especially such with these passionfruit vines.

This passionfruit vine that hangs on the entrance fence is connected directly to the groundsoil and has, in turn, became the most vigorously growing specimen I have so far. Because of its dense foliage, I had to remove a good amount of branches, stunt some others, and remove some leaves to create air flow around the plant and keep it on our fence.

But it is all worthwhile! There are currently 5 fruits forming on this specimen, and there are 3 more developing on another vine heading towards the back.

Passionfruit have a beautiful tropical taste akin to pineapple, though it is much more tart than it (think 🍍 plus 🥃 minus the vodka). Because of its high sensitivity to frost temperatures, they are often seen either here in tropical climates or in greenhouse developments.
