From bland to blooming—a hidden floral surprise beneath a classic neutral linen. 🌸

​This piece took a bit of work to bring back to life: stripping down the tired old cover, carefully sanding down the original frame, and creating a completely custom pattern from scratch to get the double-sided linen- and floral lining just right.
Finished off with a classic black fringe to tie it all together! 🖤

​Sometimes the quietest pieces on the outside hold the most beautiful details within...

Have you ever wanted to make a custom lampshade that perfectly matches your home—no experience needed? 💡👌🏻

I’m so excited to announce my upcoming autumn Lampshade Making Workshops, taking place right here in the Algarve!

I’ve once again teamed up with the wonderful team at Kit & Caboodle to host these beginner-friendly sessions in their lovely creative spaces in Almancil and Alcantarilha. They host fantastic community events, and their spacious stores make the absolute best backdrop for a fun, creative morning or afternoon out!

Whether you want to revive a favorite room, pick up a new hands-on skill, or simply enjoy a fun outing meeting like-minded people, I’ll guide you step-by-step through making your very own custom drum lampshade.

Bring along a piece of fabric (or wallpaper) you love, and we’ll provide all the professional materials, step-by-step instruction, plenty of tea/coffee, and yummy cake! 🍰☕

Each workshop is strictly limited to 6 spots so everyone gets lots of one-on-one help and space to work.

Ok. I'll admit it. I can be a Mother Hen 🐔 🐣

Some of my handmade creations I find really hard to let go of...

It might be because its one of my favourite textiles (the last remnant of a waxed art deco print found at a shop closing down), or maybe because its one-of-a kind, uniquely shaped Portuguese w**e garrafão (in the lovliest shade of green 💚 !) found on one of our many travels through this beautiful country 🇵🇹🚐

Or maybe it's all that + the fact that the light emitted from the metallic panels on the inside cast a lovely golden glow when lit... ? 🌟💛

Whatever it is, I'm so happy one of my favourite lampshades and lamps has finally found their place! Its full of art, good vibes and a love of beautiful things, and it's the perfect forever home! ✨️

Full of old treasures, such as this antique floor lamp, in desperate need of shade to complete it.
Think vintage blue linen, soft flowly fringe, the colours selected to match the old Portuguese wall tiles.

Sneak peak from our latest kitchen project!

There's still some work to be done in here, before I feel I can show the final reveal, but the tiled backsplash is finally up, and I just love how the glossy tiles reflect and bounce the light around, while contrasting beautifully against the matte units!

Add open shelving to display things way to pretty to be hidden behind closed cupboard doors!

And a Bob Marley print is, of course, a must in any decent kitchen! 😁

The Beauty of Thoughtful Contrast 🤍💙

When designing for a space with rich architectural history, the goal isn't to compete—it's to complement.
​
Set against a striking traditional Portuguese blue azulejo tile wall, this bespoke lampshade creates a quiet, sophisticated balance. We paired a soft silver-grey herringbone outer fabric with a metallic silver lining, finishing the interior with custom silver spray-painted shade rings.

The cool metallic tones offer a clean, contemporary contrast to the blue brushwork while drawing out the subtle highlights in the ceramic glaze.

Lighting isn’t just about illuminating a room, -it’s about the atmosphere you create once the sun has set. 💛🧡

This pendant was carefully selected, and plays two distinct roles in this kitchen/dining room:
Showing off its beautiful organic shape by day, and telling a moody, ambient story at night.. 🌙

Its rattan lines project dramatic, sunburst-like shadows ☀️ almost adding a physical texture to the ceiling, while keeping the living space below soft, warm, and inviting.

Perfect for a late evening with friends, gathering around the dining table ❤️🍷

I know not everyone can look at a blank room or a messy sketch and "see" the finished space—and honestly, why should you? That’s my job! 🖊️ ✨

I really like using AI as a "visual translator." It helps me take my early, sketched ideas and turn them into something you can better understand. It’s the perfect way to test out "what ifs"—like how a certain window treatment frames the view, or how the wall-hung storage fit into the room.

But here’s the thing: while the tech is amazing for a showing an rendered presentation, it doesn't replace the actual design work! It doesn't understand how the Algarve sun moves through an apartment, the flow of a home, or the personality of the persons living there.

That part still starts with a pen, a tape measure, and a lot of heart. ❤️

When my tile selection feels like choosing between delicious ice cream flavours! 🍨🍦🍧

I'm currently working on my own apartment here in the Algarve, and honestly, picking these tiles was the best part of my day!

I might be known for my handmade lampshades, but many of you know that I've always loved the bigger picture of interior design too. Seeing this gelato palette of earthy tones come together for my kitchen reminds me why I love what I do 💕

​I can't wait to show you how these delicious "ingredients" will turn into a real home!

A little Spring update (and a new name!) 🌿

Happy Easter, everyone! 🐣🐰🌷

It’s that time of year when everything feels a bit fresher and brighter, and I’ve decided to do a little "Spring cleaning" of my own. I have some exciting news to share about a fresh start for my business!

🌸 First things first: I’m changing my name!
Moving forward, Atelier Cecilia Martin is officially becoming Duntan Design.

"Duntan" is a nickname that’s always been close to my heart, and honestly, it just feels more like "me". It also helps clear up any confusion with the lovely Atelier CM just down the road from me (I only recently found out!) - I want to make sure there are no mistaken identities!

🌼 A new home for my lampshades!
I’m also so happy to announce a new partnership with the wonderful team at Urban Fabric Studio. From now on, you’ll find my bespoke lampshades exclusively at their studio. It’s a perfect match of a "designer’s eye" and a "maker’s hand," and I couldn't be more excited to collaborate with such talented people!

💮 What’s next?
You’ll see my new tagline is Spaces. Styling. Studio. - and here’s exactly what that means for you:

Spaces: This is the "big picture" side of things. I’m taking on more structural projects, like kitchen and bathroom refreshes or full-home transformations from the ground up.

Styling: Whether you need professional home staging to get a house ready for market, or just need a hand with interior curation to make your current home shine, I’m here to help you pull it all together.

Studio: This is the creative heart of the business. It’s where I’m busy crafting one-of-a-kind bespoke lampshades and getting stuck into the "hands-on" transformations—from painting walls and kitchens to giving old furniture a whole new life.

Thank you all for the support so far—it means the world! I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing Easter weekend full of sunshine and chocolate!
