This project centers on the renovation of a historical building located in the charming old town of Setúbal. The mission involves adapting the building into residential units and transforming the ground floor from a commercial space to a residential area. This project aims to modernize the building while restoring it’s original features, in compliance with the regulations governing the historical district. Additionally, we focused on meeting the business plan goals within the budget. By selecting materials and implementing cost-effective design solutions, we ensured that the project was completed efficiently without compromising on quality or historical integrity.
The building's rectangular shape and narrow facade presented unique challenges in planning and design, particularly in optimizing natural light and ventilation. Preserving historical features was paramount, involving solutions to integrate modern functionalities without compromising heritage values.
Key solutions include an open floor plan to enhance spatial flow and natural light, strategic placement of skylights to introduce daylight, light-colored materials to reflect natural light, and frosted glass for light diffusion and privacy.
The renovation resulted in the creation of two modern T0+1 apartments, each designed to blend historical elegance with contemporary comfort. The apartments feature elaborately designed kitchens, equipped to meet the needs of modern living while maintaining an aesthetic that respects the building’s heritage.
This project showcases a blend of historical preservation and modern innovation. By respecting the building's original features and integrating contemporary design solutions, we have transformed a historical commercial structure into a vibrant residential space that meets current living standards. The renovation not only revitalizes the building but also contributes to the cultural and architectural fabric of Setúbal's old town.
