Drawing of the Soul — Friday Series

In the beginning, there is only curiosity.

No filters.
No rules.
No fear of being seen.

Just pure, instinctive expression.

We don’t think.
We don’t adjust.
We don’t perform.

We just are.

And sometimes…
a soul reveals itself
in the simplest gesture —

unexpected, playful, alive.

Maybe growing up
is not about learning more…

but about remembering
how to be this free.

Friday Series — Drawing of the Soul

Not everything unfolds the way we expect.
But something is always being woven.

Thread by thread, quietly,
a life reshapes itself
not in noise, but in subtle lines and unseen hands.

This piece is part of an ongoing exploration:
drawing, voice, and movement as a way to access something deeper than form
something closer to memory, to intuition… to the soul.

Sometimes we don’t understand the moment we are in.
But perhaps that’s not the point.

Perhaps the point is to trust the process
and allow the image to emerge.

Friday Series — Drawing of the Soul

Sometimes creation feels like a spell.

Not the kind that controls anything
but the kind that keeps us devoted to what we love.

Lately architecture has been quiet around me.
But love for architecture hasn’t been.

So I keep drawing.

Observation slows the mind.
Lines become structure.
Shadows become space.

And somewhere between patience and graphite,
vision becomes sharper.

Perhaps that is the real exercise.

Not only learning to draw a face
but learning again how to see.

Architecture is not only about designing spaces.
It is also about helping people understand them.

Many clients find it difficult to read plans or imagine how a space will feel.

In this project at Quinta do Lago, I explored a different approach to representation:
moving between watercolor sketches and rendered images.

The watercolor invites imagination.
The render brings the atmosphere closer to reality.

Starting from the exterior of the daughters’ bedroom, the camera moves inside the space, revealing the light, the silence, and the landscape beyond the window.

Sometimes a simple transition between drawing and visualization can transform complexity into clarity.

Architecture begins when a space can finally be seen, understood, and felt.

Can you imagine your house just by looking at a floor plan?

For architects, reading a plan is natural.
But for many clients it’s difficult to visualize the space.

In this video I start with the site plan and zoom into one corner of the project.
Then the perspective reveals the pool area.

The drawing evolves from watercolor to render, showing how the space comes to life.

Adding movement and people helps translate architecture into something intuitive:
light, water, scale… and life.

Because a project is not just lines on paper.
It’s the experience of living in that space.

Now imagine this moment:
standing on that terrace, looking at the pool…
Would this be your dream house?

Sometimes the most beautiful ideas begin as obstacles.

When designing this house, there was a tree exactly where the building should be.
Instead of removing it, I chose to keep it.

The tree became an internal courtyard — bringing natural light to the entrance, the staircase, the powder room, and even the living room above.

What could have been a problem became the soul of the house.

A quiet reminder that in architecture, and in life, what seems like a limitation can become the very thing that makes something unique.

The living room doesn’t end.
It flows into the landscape.

The pool is not an addition.
It is continuity.

When architecture respects the terrain,
interior and exterior stop competing
and start belonging to each other.

True luxury is when architecture disappears
and nature becomes the main character.

Friday Series — Drawing of the Soul

At the end of February, everyone wears costumes.
Brighter colors. Masks. Characters.

But what if the costume reveals more than it hides?

We spend our lives learning what to soften.
We adjust our gaze.
We control our gestures.
We adapt versions of ourselves.

To belong.
To be accepted.

Yet essence always finds a way through.

In the eyes.
In the subtle asymmetries.
In what cannot be perfectly controlled.

To truly observe someone is to see beyond the surface.
To notice what is not always spoken.

Architecture works the same way.

Many clients say they don’t know what they want.
But they know how they want to feel.

Design is not about imposing form.
It is about revealing identity.

And when someone feels truly seen,
their true colors appear
beautiful, like a rainbow.
