In the heart of Lumiar/Telheiras, the old LAGAR de São Vicente is reborn.
A space with history, deeply connected to the community, is now transformed into 'Polo de Telheiras - Espaço Cidadão', integrating a modern coworking space and support areas for local associations.
Something Imaginary was the Architecture Studio chosen to carry out the rehabilitation of this building, which has just been completed.
The intervention arose from the need to recover a historic building that showed clear signs of structural wear, particularly in terms of the roof and various internal elements. It became a priority to guarantee conditions of safety, durability and functional adequacy, while simultaneously ensuring the preservation of the architectural identity of the mill.
The design strategy was based on three fundamental pillars:
• Structural consolidation and reinforcement
• Complete roof renovation
• Functional reorganization of internal spaces
The main hall, entrance, and restrooms were renovated and adapted to the new programmatic requirements, allowing the integration of support areas for local associations and a new coworking space, enhancing the versatility and continuous use of the building.
The intervention sought to maintain the original design and existing architectural style, reconciling formal conservation with technical and functional updating.
This project demonstrates how rehabilitation can play a decisive role in enhancing the value of built heritage, ensuring its future sustainability through a new public and community function.
