Ocean Stack Building – Canidelo, Vila Nova de Gaia (Porto)
Positioned close to the Canidelo beaches, confluence of the Douro River mouth and the industrial remnants of a former textile-printing factory—where an iconic chimney still stands—the Ocean Stack project responds sensitively to its context. Set within a subdivided plot, flanked by access roads, and adjacent to a green area with a lake, the design gently integrates with the terrain, embracing the site’s natural slope.
The architecture emphasizes horizontal lines, extending verandas and planters that draw attention to the building’s horizontality. Transparent façades foster a subtle dialogue between inside and outside, while the horizontal verandas frame views and offer sheltered outdoor living spaces.
Through a deliberate emphasis on horizontality and seamless transitions, the Ocean Stack project aspires to be more than a structure—it’s an immersive experience. A building that not only acknowledges its surroundings, but actively engages with them, providing a profound sense of calm, expanding open spaces, and a harmonious fusion of the built and natural environments.
