Alphabettes Soup celebrates a decade of feminist approaches to type research, design, and creative community-building. The book blends key articles from the Alphabettes platform with original essays, exploring intersections between culture, language, business practices, technology, and type. It also includes interviews with Alphabettes members, visual histories, and reflections on past and ongoing initiatives. More than an anthology, Alphabettes Soup is a dynamic collection of voices and stories. The book is conceived as a type specimen, showcasing over 100 typefaces designed by women and non-binary individuals. Aimed at challenging dominant narratives in type history and contemporary practice, Alphabettes Soup seeks to inspire future generations to create their own decentralized design communities.

Fashion is a mix of the tangible and the intangible: it brings together craftsmanship and material expertise with storytelling and imagination. In this process, the role of the individual and the group are interconnected. One person’s creativity influences others, leading to a multiplicative process.

In this book, designer and educator Andrea Cammarosano examines how these dynamics can be applied to education. While fashion education often focuses on individual expression, collaborative processes and group creativity can broaden perspectives, fostering systems of collective creation. The book proposes that skill-training and craft — foundations of tangible creation in fashion— can act as tools to connect personal discovery with collective imagination.

This exploration began at the Royal Academy of Arts Antwerp and expanded over four years to include two other leading institutions: HEAD–Genève, Haute école d’art et de design, in Geneva and NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, in Milan.

The book includes a large collection of artworks made during workshops and activities at the three schools, as well as stories and feedback from students and teachers. It also offers manuals and practical ideas for building education programs focused on craft and creativity.

This publication is for anyone passionate about working with crafts and materials, and for people who want to use these skills to create strong and creative teams. It is especially useful for educators and young designers looking for ideas on how to organize projects and creative processes in groups or collectives.

The book includes conversations with crafters, educators, and textile industry professionals, such as designers Walter Van Beirendonck and Lutz Huelle, and Sara Sozzani Maino, Creative Director at Fondazione Sozzani.

Architects, historians, and theorists have had a weird obsession with fascist architecture since postmodernism. Why? And who are the antifascist architects? What does antifascist architecture look like? Antifascist Architecture is the first attempt at creating a working definition of antifascist architecture after academia has spent decades fetishizing fascist architecture.

Brilliant scholarship has of course been presented about anti-colonial architecture, liberation architecture, and so forth. Yet antifascist architecture is an avenue that remains to be explored. This book does just that, offering a kaleidoscopic, peripatetic bricolage of architects who heroically aligned themselves with antifascist struggles, buildings made in the name of antifascism, and a call to arms for antifascist utopian futures. It is written for students and practitioners of architecture, but also activists and scholars in the social sciences who are interested in antifascist history, theory, and practice.

Seeds provide us with food and raw materials, preserve diversity and knowledge, and represent hope and renewal. They form the very foundation of our lives. The publication Seeds: Reclaiming Roots, Sowing Futures, which accompanies the exhibition of the same name, explores the multifaceted significance of seeds as a mirror of our relationship to the Earth and to one another. Works by international artists tell stories of migration and colonialism, indigenous knowledge, biodiversity, agriculture, resistance, and regenerative futures. The exhibition bridges the gap between art, ecology, and activism, offering new perspectives on the potential of care and collective growth.

Artists: Artists: Ackroyd & Harvey, Maria Thereza Alves, Alexandra Baumgartner, Tue Greenfort, Kapwani Kiwanga, Dominique Koch, Jumana Manna, Christian Kosmas Mayer, Marzia Migliora, Lucía Pizzani, Michaela Putz, Cecilia Vicuña, Munem Wasif

Cruising Pavilion: Architecture, Dissident S*x and Cruising Cultures examines the influence of cruising cultures on architecture and urban life, unfolding a typology of spaces produced by s*xual—primarily gay—subcultures. From the appropriation of sites such as parks, public restrooms, and streets to purpose-built spaces like s*x clubs, bars, and bathhouses, as well as the new form of virtual dérive generated by geosocial dating apps, cruising has subverted the libidinal cartography and use of the modern metropolis.

The book considers these spatial practices through the lens of artistic avant-gardes that have emerged at the intersection of s*x, art, and architecture. It follows the eponymous curatorial project initiated by Pierre-Alexandre Mateos, Rasmus Myrup, Octave Perrault, and Charles Teyssou, which traveled from Paris to Venice and on to New York, Fire Island, and Stockholm.

Pierre-Alexandre Mateos and Charles Teyssou are a Paris-based curatorial duo. Their recent projects include Paris Orbital, a series of events at the Pinault Collection – Bourse de Commerce, and the Conversations series for Paris+ par Art Basel in October 2023.

The visual and textual contributions in this volume take shape from a series of questions that place at the center of reflection the role of artistic and design practices in the production of knowledge. What tools can we adopt when words are no longer sufficient to describe what surrounds us? How can we construct new languages and new imaginaries capable of giving form to experience, uncertainty, and the complexity of our present? What does it mean today to produce knowledge through practice, at a historical moment when the boundaries between discipline and action, between theory and project, between art and life are becoming increasingly blurred? How do artists and designers use the tools of their practices to question reality, deconstruct dominant narratives, and propose alternative perspectives?

The volume gathers and weaves together the works and writings of more than one hundred artists, designers, scholars, and thinkers who, through different approaches, languages, and sensibilities, explore the possibility of generating knowledge through image, gesture, form, and action. The aim is to shed light on how visual practices can not only represent the world but also have an impact on it, activating processes of situated, critical, and transformative knowledge.

Introduced and edited by Giulia Cordin, with contributions by Nida Abdullah, Matteo Antoniazzi, Noemi Biasetton, Nitzan Cohen, Silvio Lorusso, Simone C Niquille, Kseniia Obukhova and Francesca V***a

The career of avant-garde photographer and activist Germaine Krull (1897–1985) took her across the world over a turbulent century. After growing up around Europe, Krull studied photography in Munich during the First World War. There she acquired her nickname or alter-ego ‘Chien fou’ (Mad Dog), which provides the chronological and thematic starting point for this volume of writings drawn from the course of Krull’s extraordinary life, most published for the first time.

The selected texts range from artistic manifestos to political essays to memoirs, written between the 1920s and ’80s in a wide variety of places and circumstances. They narrate Krull’s life among the creative communities of the Bavarian Soviet Republic and interwar Paris, her participation in the French Resistance in Brazil and Equatorial Africa, and her later decision to settle in Thailand, then India. Illustrated throughout with Krull's celebrated photographs and archival materials, this collection offers a compelling account from the front lines of artistic innovation in the twentieth century and introduces a unique literary stylist.

Amber is a book of texts I have gleaned and polished from material originally written for the Instagram account over the past six years. Amber is an offline archive for these texts, as well as an autonomous publication that you can read without further knowledge of, or interest in, the account. Writing for the platform brought forth a certain register, a voice that was more the voice of an account than, strictly, my voice. The writing was shaped by Instagram’s algorithm: by what was popular, by what angered the users. The writing was cybernetic, gloopy and also a bit sad in that way. »—Jaakko Pallasvuo

« Amber is an extraordinary achievement, drawn from the most ordinary materials of art making: long hours in the studio, battles for funding, exhibition mounting, doubt, indecision, intoxication, compulsory socialising. The book evokes a portrait of a humanistic cyborg as a young artist. A vertiginous thrill of exactitude runs through each piece, sustained by a precise commitment to its own necessity—at once inspiring and quietly life-supporting from page to page. I may never finish this book. It resists resolution, and its sense of time is poly-circular. That resistance is part of its comfort. Each time I open it, I find myself in another head-spin—mine or the author’s. Truth and the unverifiable collide. Reading it is a pleasure in itself: the pearl-shaped thoughts of Avocado Ibuprofen are stylish, witty, accelerated, evaporating before they have time to age. Neat and faintly apocalyptic, they are immediately quotable, like a choir of refrigerator magnets—something off of Patricia Lockwood’s fridge. I find myself laughing out loud, again today, at the same two words, still standing in the same position. »—Raimundas Malašauskas
