RÁKOSRENDEZŐ MASTERPLAN
-
We proposed a vision for the former Rákosrendező railway area, transforming it into an advanced sponge city laboratory that integrates nature and architecture. The concept moves away from the traditional garden city to create a resilient urban landscape, with green-permeable buildings and climate-adapted public spaces.
The urban strategy is to concentrate new construction on the edges, in continuity with the existing city, leaving the center free for a large linear park. Two “green clearings” will be created within a new ring-shaped pedestrian and cycle path system, which will act as a permeable threshold between the built environment and nature. The residential blocks will be open and have multiple courtyards with green terraces and hanging gardens, with taller volumes towards the railway and lower ones towards the existing city for harmonious integration.
The heart of the project is the ring system, a continuous pedestrian and cycle infrastructure that crosses the railway line. These rings are designed as “places” that generate identity and connections, offering a unique Budapest experience.
