This Friday, 18th May, is going to be a very special day at our Botanical Art Worldwide Exhibition 🌷as we prepare to celebrate the Worldwide Day of Botanical Art, and we have prepared a very special programme to mark the occasion! 🤗

🎨Svetlana Lanse will host a demo work-shop at 13:00, where she will show the best way to draw a physalis. Some of you have already messaged us expressing your disappointment at having missed her brilliant work-shop at the beginning pf our exhibition. So here’s your chance to learn from her and to observe her unique and delicate technique. Don’t miss it!

🎨Following the demo you will have a unique opportunity to take part in a virtual walkthrough, visiting the other exhibitions taking place in the framework of the Botanical Art Worldwide project. After all, our exhibition is just 1/25 of the entire project, and this Friday, at 15:00, we will screen the presentations from the other exhibitions. ⠀
🎨At 16:00 Svetlana Lanse and Anna Suprunenko will host a talk about botanical art exhibitions. How to take part? Where to find the necessary information on international exhibitions? How to apply? They will answer these and other questions, and will also share their own experience in the field.

🎨And, as the icing on the cake, Alexander Viazmensky will hold a demo work-shop at 17:00 dedicated to – as you must have guessed – his specialty, drawing mushrooms!🍃

🎨После мастер-класса начнем созерцательную часть встречи. Помните, что "Всемирное Ботаническое Искусство. Дикорастущие растения России" - это лишь 1/25 всей международной выставки Botanical Art Worldwide? Экспозиция проходит одновременно в 25 странах, и в эту пятницу в Петербургском Союзе Художников мы виртуально перенесемся на остальные выставки и полюбуемся работами зарубежных соавторов. С 15:00 на экране покажут презентации с работами BAW со всего мира. Другой возможности увидеть их все у вас не будет!

🎨В 16:00 поговорим о ботанических выставках. Как принять участие? Где найти информацию о международных экспозициях? О важной для ботанического художника теме и своем личном опыте расскажут Светлана Лансе и Анна Супруненко.

We are officially open!
We wait for you to visit us at 12:00 any day of the week except Mondays.

We were so happy to see you all at opening ceremony. Among all other exhibitions in Saint-Petersburg this one brings the most of joy and spring vibes! Guests felt it, too. That explains flower prints on almost everybody's clothes.

And don't forget our hastag - . That is how artists and all the guests can share photos and experience along the way!

We are busy getting ready for the BAW.Russia exhibition opening, and we are all very excited. If you’d like to know more about the workshops and other special events that will take place during our exhibition, please stay tuned for regular updates.

In the meantime you can already note down the upcoming live work-shop with Alexander Viazmensky, and share the event with your friends and fellow artists. It will be a two-day event, to be held on 10th and 11th May. 🌾

For two hours this brilliant botanical artist will share with you his extensive knowledge, and will teach you all you need to know about painting mushrooms. The programme is a truly comprehensive one:

🍄Applying colour: first layer
🍄Applying colour: seconf layer
🍄Using white
🍄Details: soil and “flecks and specks”
🍄Finishing touches

🌱For almost two weeks, from May 8th to May 20th, our guests will have the unique opportunity to meet our featured artists and take part in numerous workshops, lectures, and art material shows and presentations. We’ve also prepared a children’s programme, so please stay tuned for more updates about the upcoming events. You won’t be disappointed!

💐The Botanical Art Worldwide Exhibition will not be confined to the walls of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists. One of the side events – a live workshop with Svetlana Lanse – is scheduled to take place at the Lectoroom studio at No. 6, Kima prospect. In just six hours this brilliant botanical artist will teach our guests how to cope with some of the more interesting, if challenging, tasks. ☘ How do you make even the darkest of colours really shine through? How do you make those rose petals keep their velvety feel?

Save the date, as May 19th is the day you can find out the answer to these and many other questions.

As the month of May approaches, we’d like to share more news about our upcoming exhibition with you.

Today we’re going to tell you about this truly global Botanical Art Worldwide project.

BAW is an international project that was brought to life through the work of botanical artists from different countries from all across the globe. They chose the main theme, and every country had to realize it in such a way that would best reflect its own flora, and the unique features of its natural world.🌱

As this year’s project is dedicated to wild flowers and plants, it offers a unique opportunity to see the wildlife of 25 participating countries up close!🌷

So it’s no big deal if a trip to Mexico or France was not on your agenda for this spring break: BAW is here to help you remedy the situation! 🔥

Botanical Art Worldwide is an international project dedicated to the art of botanical painting. Remember when we told you that this year 18 countries would be taking part in the exhibition? Well, we have an even bigger number of participants now!

We are very happy to announce that this year BAW events will be held in 25 countries across 6 continents:

Australia, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Great Britain, Germany, France, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Scotland, South Africa, Thailand, Ukraine, and the USA.

The exact dates vary from country to country, but each exhibition will honour the International Botanical Art Day by offering special events on 18 May 2018 to mark the occasion. Selection for BAW.Russia was even harder than we thought. One of the main rules of the international exposition is the painting of a wild plant. But it was often broken.

We think that some plants are wild-growing but don't notice difference between wild-growing plants and those that have become wild.

The catch is that many of the plants that seem wild to us are not wild. For example, birds spread the seeds of apple, pear and rowan and cultural plants become wild. Such plants can not be the subject of our exhibition.

But there are wild-growing species of apple, pear, etc. on the territory of Russia. Natalia Alatortseva, a botanist, botanical artist and host of the BAW. Russia tells about wild plants of Russia.

1. Malus sylvestris and Pyrus communis grow in the European part of Russia, more characteristic of the zone of deciduous forests.
2. Malus baccata - grows in Eastern Siberia and the Far Votok.
3. Crataegus - many species
4. Prunus stepposa Kotov
5. Ccommon apricot, Armeniaca vulgaris Lam., Armeniaca mandshurica (Maxim.) Skvortsov
6. Amygdalus nana L.
7. Sorbus domestica. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
A wonderful example of international wild berries that exist in the form of cultivars are the genus Vaccinium, which is called blueberry and whortleberry. In Russia, most likely to meet:

1. Vaccinium myrtillus - grows in the forest and in the mountains of the Caucasus.
2. Vaccinium arctostaphylos in the Caucasus Mountains and in the forest.
3. Vaccinium uliginosum - grows on marshes.

Отбор на BAW.Russia оказался даже тяжелее, чем мы думали. Одно из основных правил международной экспозиции - изображение дикорастущего растения. Но по незнанию оно часто нарушалось. Загвоздка в том, что многие из тех растений, которые представляются нам дикими, одичали. К примеру, семена яблонь, груш и рябины разносят птицы, вблизи населенных пунктов встречаются “дички”. Это одичавшие культурные растения и они не могут быть предметом нашей выставки.

Но на территории России есть и дикие виды яблонь, груш, рябины и др. О дикорастущих растениях рассказывает Наталья Алаторцева - ботаник, ботанический художник и член оргомитета BAW.Russia.

1. Яблоня лесная (Malus sylvestris) и Груша обыкновенная (Pyrus communis) растут в Европейской части России, более характерны для зоны широколиственных лесов.
2. Яблоня ягодная (Malus baccata) - растет в Восточной Сибири и на Дальнем Вотоке.
3. Боярышники (Crataegus, много видов)
4. Сливы (тёрн степной, Prunus stepposa Kotov)
5. Абрикосы (абрикос обыкновенный, Armeniaca vulgaris Lam., Armeniaca mandshurica (Maxim.) Skvortsov)
6. Миндаль низкий (Amygdalus nana L.)
7. Рябины - растет в Крыму рябина домашняя, Sorbus domestica.

В лесу растут плоды деревьев семейства буковые - чаще всего встречается дуб. Каштан и бук растут в лесах на Кавказе.

1. Бук восточный (Fagus orientalis) и Каштан посевной (Castanea sativa) растут на Кавказе, в Западном Закавказье довольно много лесов со значительным участием каштана.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
Прекрасный пример интернациональных диких ягод, которые существуют и в виде культурных сортов - род Vaccinium, которые называют черника и голубика. В России вероятнее всего встретить:
1. Чернику (Vaccinium myrtillus) - растет в лесу и в горах Кавказа.
2. Чернику кавказскую (Vaccinium arctostaphylos) в горах Кавказа и в лесу.
3. Голубику (Vaccinium uliginosum) - растет на болотах.

Let's move to Chile? It is one of the countries-participant of the exhibition . ⠀
The exhibition will take place in the capital of Chile - Santiago, in the ancient Library of La Recoleta Dominica. This famous building was built in 1753. Now Library of La Recoleta Dominica contains one of the most important collections of historical books in Latin America, numbering more than 115 000 volumes. And there is a museum of decorative art in this library .

Interesting fact is that Chile has formed a new group of artists, "Circle of Naturalist Illustrators, Chile - CINC", which will hold master classes in botanic art and other events.

Чилийская экспозиция пройдет в Сантьяго, в старинной Библиотеке де ла Реколета Доминика, которая построена в 1753 году и содержит одну из самых важных коллекций исторических книг в Латинской Америке, насчитывающую более 115 000 томов. В этой же библиотеке находится музей декоративного искусства.

Чили сформировала новую группу художников «Circle of Naturalist Illustrators, Chile - CINC», которые проведут мастер-классы по ботаническому искусству и другие мероприятия.
