We are pleased to announce that Mark Smith will join the KS team on a permanent basis as the Associate Director in the UK. Mark has worked in practice and regional government for over a decade, focusing on masterplanning and regeneration projects at various scales. In addition, Mark has held teaching positions at various institutions including the University of Cambridge and the Royal College of Art.

With a focus on mobility, ecology, design-led infrastructure, placemaking and adaptive re-use, Mark will lead and help to further build the UK Kjellander Sjöberg team.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗹𝗱 – 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁
Kjellander Sjöberg has been invited by - Jönköping-Kronoberg to an inspiring morning talk featuring innovative projects that repurpose existing buildings. The event will take place on Friday, 6th September in Jönköping at 9 am.

As the keynote speaker, KS will present the Kasper Salin Award-nominated reimagination of industrial heritage 𝗚𝗷𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘁 in Malmö for Varvsstaden. Followed by a series of shorter presentations on Werket, Gummifabriken, Munksjöstaden projects, the event will conclude with an open panel discussion.

Kjellander Sjöbergs omvandlingsprojekt Gjuteriet i Malmö för Varvsstaden lyfts fram i juninumret av Fastighetstidningen. I den omfattande artikeln resonerar Leo Gullbring kring cirkulärt byggande, arkitektoniska kvalitéer, hållbarhetsstudier, kretsloppsanpassning samt hur ambitiösa program skapas när byggbranschen ska bli klimatneutral.

– Vi var inte intresserade av att bara visa upp och lägga fernissa på industriella miljöer som berättar en historia från stadens storhetstid. Vi ville att byggnaden skulle hålla i hundra år till. Det frilagda stålskelettet visade sig användbart, byggnadens generalitet öppnade för en mängd idéer. Vi kunde skapa en slags hållbarhetshierarki där vi började med det som fanns och allteftersom lade till lokala, förnyelsebara material och givetvis även några som inte helt håller måttet, som i sämsta fall mineralull, säger Stefan Sjöberg.

‘Through diligent work with reuse, the old shipyard ruin has been transformed into a multifaceted workspace building, preserving the history of the site with its architecture whilst exploring new means of expression. The project embraces diversity and variation, and its articulation is informed by the relationships between original, reused, and new materials.’ From the jury's report.

The prize is awarded annually by Sveriges Arkitekter to a recently completed building of high architectural quality to stimulate and disseminate good examples. Gjuteriet in Malmö is one of the four nominees for the Kasper Salin Prize which is considered the most prestigious award in the country. The winner will be revealed at the Architecture Gala on 9th April.

Gjuteriet is a transformation project; a reimagination of an industrial heritage focusing on circular strategies and a high degree of material reuse in the former Kockum’s shipyard area in Malmö. The project is designed by Kjellander Sjöberg for Varvsstaden, in collaboration with the contractor Peab and the tenant Oatly.

Lokalen är 550 kvm, ljusa ytor med generös takhöjd, fem mötesrum, varav ett större för 14 personer, samt seminarieyta för 20-30 personer. Kollektivnära läge vid Södra Station, buss och Mariatorgets tunnelbana.

We’re finally able to talk about this amazing project!

Kjellander Sjöberg has, with a stellar team of architects, been appointed by regeneration specialist U+I (a Landsec Company) and profit-with-purpose developer TOWN to design the masterplan for the Core Site in North East Cambridge.

The brownfield site is a great opportunity to transform the 48ha site into a vibrant, mix-use local place with quality of life, firmly rooted in Cambridge. We are looking forward to working together with the visionary client team as well as with the incredible architects:
