In 2011, Blks 321, 322 and 323, along Clementi Ave 4, were chosen for the Selective En-bloc Redevelopment Scheme(SERS).
Today, the site where these blocks sat on is reduced to a busy construction site, where the Cross Island MRT line is being built.
12m high hoardings were installed around the construction site to keep noise and dust in. To minimise its visual impact, the hoarding was made up of multi-coloured panels, arranged to resemble a "low-res" landscape painting. At least they tried.
Along the boundaries of the construction site, a ribbon of sheltered linkway was built, in place of the original thoroughfares which used to criss-crossed the site. They were built for residents (who wasn't fortunate enough to have their flats selected for SERS) to saunter between their homes in neighbouring blocks and Clementi MRT station.
The brightly lit linkway, against its relatively dark background of "low-res" landscape painting, first caught my attention. I find this juxtaposition too irresistible to not photograph. I worked out a composition consisting of horizontal layers. The drain and turfing in the foreground. The lit linkway and hoarding followed. It was my intention to reveal a bit of the evening sky, at the top of the frame, an additional layer to the composition.
