Hi Singapore Drivers: What to Do If You’re Hit by a Malaysian Vehicle 🇸🇬🚗🇲🇾
Recently, I experienced a situation where my car was hit by a Malaysian-registered vehicle. The driver, Mr Mamat, initially promised to cover the repair costs — but later became uncontactable and switched off his phone.
If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, here are the steps you should take immediately:
✅ 1. Collect full details on the spot
Driver’s full name (as per IC/passport)
Vehicle number & photos
Contact number (verify by calling on the spot)
Take clear photos/videos of damage, surroundings, and driver
✅ 2. File a police report ASAP
Especially important for foreign vehicles. This creates an official record and protects your case.
✅ 3. Report to your insurer within 24 hours
Even if the other party promises to pay — don’t rely on verbal agreements.
✅ 4. Check for VEP / entry records if needed
Authorities may be able to trace the vehicle if it re-enters Singapore.
✅ 5. Consider legal or claims options
Cross-border recovery is difficult, but not impossible with proper documentation.
⚠️ Important reminder:
Do not trust verbal promises alone — always protect yourself with proper documentation and official reporting.
Let’s stay informed and protect one another on the road. If you’ve faced something similar, share your experience below so others can learn.
