Many people asked if we have retained the previous owner’s vintage mosaic tiles at the recess area. Well, the answer is no. In fact, previous owner did not even purchase the recess area. Hence, everything you see here is made from scratch.

The design theme of this project is Muji-inspired with a hint of 70s aesthetic elements, no less. We were in a hyper mode when we found these beautiful mosaic from our most trusted supplier because this affirms that we could recreate the nostalgia feel in this house.

And you bet. When we said to “recreate the nostalgia feel”, we really mean it - by using the most traditional tool and technique from the good old days, of course :)

The first visualisation in this project was to have the wall between the living room and kitchen to be demolished in order for us to take advantage of the light from the living room for the kitchen. And next in task was to have the kitchen floor to be leveled with the living room floor. Such kind of works are subject to HDB approval.

Apart from not hacking any structural wall, we also would only use HDB approved non-combustible lightweight screed for topping up the floor slab in the proposed dry kitchen. Without a doubt, we gained the green light from the authority for the works.

Though the whole process from proposal to approval is no doubt time consuming, the outcome is desirable.

We have been building and rebuilding homes since 1973 and most of the times, we worked with home owners. Once in a blue moon, we would receive requests from government agencies to render our services to assist the residents.

A throwback to a case of fire, which was likely caused by a power-assisted bicycle (PAB) charging, broke out in a HDB unit at Bedok North. Everyone was heavy-hearted after witnessing the aftermath of the house fire.

The plan was to minimally restore the unit to livable state as soon as possible. We always say, no any project is the same and no doubt this is one of the challenging projects we are involved. But because of its challenges, the job fulfilment level we had at the end of the day was unforgettable. We would like to thank East Coast GRC (Fengshan) for entrusting us to rebuild the house for the family 🙏🏽

Taking this chance to remind everyone some fire safety tips from SCDF on the prevention of personality mobility devices (PMD) and PAB fires:

🙅🏽‍♀️Do not overcharge batteries.

🙅🏽‍♀️Do not to purchase or use non-original batteries.

🙅🏽‍♀️ Do not charge PAB, PMD or its batteries near combustible materials or along an escape path.

🙅🏽‍♀️ Do not charge PAB or PMD immediately after use.

Deciding the right edge trim option after tiling is the key to professional and finished touch for any tile installation. There are many options for you to decide how you would want to hide your tile corners. It all depends on your preference, budget, and most importantly, the feasibility of your chosen tile.

In this project, Ah Myang had adopted the option of creating mitred edges - which is the most challenging tiling technique to pull off. This is accomplished by cutting the edges of two tiles at 45 degree angle so that they form a neat 90 degree angle when placed together. A mitred finish results in a minimal, seamless profile that allows your tile to take center stage, without the distraction of a trim.
