TOPNIČKA BITNICA ĆUKOVICA / ARTILLERY BATTERY ĆUKOVICA

/ Susan Stewart podsjeća da su ruševine anomalije u krajoliku sadašnjosti i arhitektonski ekvivalent sintaktičkog anakolutona. One ne slijede niti prethode - one zahtijevaju dopunu daljnjeg čitanja, daljnju sintaksu. Ove često masivne i gotovo uvijek prazne materijalne strukture su istovremeno i previše i nedovoljno određene. One stoje između oblika kakvi su bile i bezobličnosti na koju su, u nedostatku restauracije, osuđene. Gube svoje izvorne svrhe i imaju singularnost umjetničkih djela, no nepovratno su odvojene od svojih originalnih konteksta. U sadašnjosti su spojene, gotovo uvijek destruktivno, sa svojim neposrednim prirodnim okruženjem. (Stewart, S. 2022. A Paper Archaeology, Piranesi’s Ruinous Fantasias)
Ostaci topničke bitnice Ćukovica na Kamenjaku ne predstavljaju ni najbolje očuvano utvrđenje s aspekta arheologije, niti su među povijesno važnijima na ovim područjima, stoga nisu ni zaštićeni kao kulturno dobro. Brdo Ćukovica prekrila je borova šuma i makija, a bitnica, vidljivo oštećena tijekom drugog svjetskog rata prepuštena je propadanju. U tom procesu nastupa arhitektonska intervencija koja ne zaustavlja nužno propadanje strukture.
U podzemnom dijelu bitnice planiran je postav izložbe koja tematizira „Premantursku grupu“ utvrđenja čiji dio su bile i bitnice na Ćukovici i zanimljive detalje iz života civilnog stanovništva Premanture za vrijeme 2. svj. rata. Zatečeno stanje bitnice uzima se kao ishodište projekta kojemu nije cilj restauracija i rekonstrukcija, već ponovna uporaba dokle god to okolnosti budu omogućavale. Intervencije u prostor temelje na adiciji novih elemenata na postojeću strukturu bitnice bez popravaka prijašnjih oštećenja. Projektom se predviđa umještanje opreme za stalni postav izložbe i uređenje ulaza u bitnicu čeličnim elementima koji omogućuju kasniju demontažu. /
/ Susan Stewart reminds us that ruins are anomalies in the landscape of the present and the architectural equivalent of a syntactic anacoluton. They neither follow nor precede - they require the complement of further reading, further syntax. These often massive and almost always empty material structures are at once over- and under-determined. They stand between the form they once were and the formlessness to which, in the absence of restoration, they are condemned. They lose their original purposes and have the singularity of works of art, but they are irretrievably separated from their original contexts. The remains of the Ćukovica artillery battery on Kamenjak do not represent the best-preserved fortification from an archaeological perspective, nor are they among the most historically important in these areas, and therefore are not protected as a cultural asset. Ćukovica Hill is covered with pine forest and macchia, and the battery, visibly damaged during World War II, has been left to decay. In this process, architectural intervention occurs, which does not necessarily stop the deterioration of the structure.
In the underground part of the battery, an exhibition is planned that will focus on the "Premantura Group" of fortifications, of which the batteries on Ćukovica were a part, and interesting details from the life of the civilian population of Premantura during World War II. The current state of the battery is taken as the starting point for the project, the goal of which is not restoration and reconstruction, but reuse for as long as circumstances allow. Interventions in the space are based on the addition of new elements to the existing battery structure without repairing previous damage. The project envisages the installation of equipment for a permanent exhibition and the arrangement of the entrance to the battery with steel elements that will allow for later dismantling. /
