'SAMOSORN' a Thai restaurant at One Bangkok, takes its origin from the ground it stands on Witthayu Road, and the era in which the road came into being. In the years surrounding the reigns of Rama V and Rama VI, European architecture and decor settled into daily life alongside the Thai home, giving rise to a visual language shaped by both traditions; a history that runs parallel to Samosorn's own culinary concept, where Thai heritage meets modern culinary artistry on the plate.
The interior draws on this same idea of heritage, a point where Thai and Western sensibilities meet. We looked to the Thai households of that period, designed in a Western manner yet unmistakably Thai in spirit, where the two traditions developed a shared vocabulary rather than a hierarchy. Samosorn takes this as its starting point, not as historical reenactment but as a proposition that heritage and elegance, vintage wood and European ornament, can occupy the same room without one serving as backdrop to the other. The intent is a space that reads as inherited rather than designed, shaped by contact with Europe but never surrendering its Thai character.
This household logic shaped the floor plan too, arranged as a foyer, a main living hall, private corners, and a terrace rather than a sequence of dining zones, each holding its own mood within one continuous home. Tropical touches move through the spaces in painted palm motifs, rattan and cane furniture, and patterned tilework, while European reference appears reworked rather than restated, fluted columns turned sculptural, archways curved into scalloped forms. All is a twist on history rather than a duplicate of it.
