TCDC เมืองนครราชสีมา มีตำแหน่งที่ตั้งอยู่ใจกลางเมืองเก่าซึ่งอยู่บนแนวแกนสำคัญที่เป็นแนวแกนผ่ากลางเชื่อมโยงกับ Node และพื้นที่สาธารณะสำคัญของเมือง ทั้งลานอนุสาวรีย์ท้าวสุรนารี ศาลหลักเมือง วัดพระนารายณ์มหาราช และไนท์บาซ่าร์สวนหมาก จากศักยภาพและโอกาสในการพัฒนาจึงมีแนวคิดในการออกแบบให้ TCDC แห่งนี้เป็นพื้นที่ “CREATIVE URBAN ROOM” แสดงตนเป็นอีกหนึ่งพื้นที่ที่จะสามารถอุทิศ ปรับเปลี่ยนพื้นที่ให้เป็นพื้นที่สาธารณะที่สร้างสรรค์ให้กับเมือง การออกแบบที่เปิดเผย เปิดมุมมองด้วยวัสดุโปร่งใสที่เอื้อให้เกิด Urban Visual Connect ระหว่างพื้นที่ภายในและภายนอกจะทำให้เห็นกิจกรรมสร้างสรรค์ต่างๆที่จะเกิดขึ้นที่ TCDC แห่งนี้ นอกจากนี้ในเทศกาลสร้างสรรค์ต่างๆของเมือง อาคารยังถูกออกแบบให้สามารถเปิดประตูบานใหญ่ด้านหน้าให้สามารถเชื่อมต่อพื้นที่ภายในกับภายนอกได้อย่างต่อเนื่องและไร้ขอบเขต(Borderless Space)
จากสภาพแวดล้อมและลักษณะกายภาพของอาคารตลอดทางถนนจอมพลสายนี้ส่วนใหญ่เป็นอาคารพาณิชย์ หรือตึกแถวที่มีสภาพที่ทรุดโทรม และอาคารส่วนใหญ่ถูกสร้างด้วยวัสดุการก่ออิฐฉาบปูนแบบทั่วไป ด้วยเหตุนี้อีกหนึ่งแนวคิดสำคัญคือการชูเรื่อง “CREATIVE USE OF LOCAL MATERIALS” การศึกษาค้นคว้าวัสดุท่องถิ่น ภูมิปัญญาของช่าง ซึ่งได้แรงบันดาลใจจากศิลปะ หัตถกรรม และรูปแบบสถาปัตยกรรมพื้นถิ่นต่างๆ เช่น เรือนโคราช-เฉลิมวัฒนา ที่ใช้ไม้ในการก่อสร้างด้วยเทคนิคการเข้าไม้ เข้าลิ่มที่น่าสนใจ, รูปแบบการก่อสร้างปราสาทหินที่ใช้หินทราย, รูปแบบการถักทอผ้าไหมโคราช การใช้เส้นพุ่ง เส้นยืนในการถักทอ, อิฐ หรือเครื่องปันดินเผาด่านเกวียน มีเสน่ห์ของสีดิน แลลวดลายที่หลากหลาย แรงบันดาลใจเหล่านี้เป็นแนวคิดในการนำวัสดุต่างๆนำกลับมาใช้ใหม่ ในภาษาใหม่ ด้วยการใช้ในลักษณะ Composited Material ผสมผสานระหว่างวัสดุ เก่า– ใหม่ และการใช้เทคนิคการก่อสร้างแบบผสมผสานภูมิปัญญาในอดีต และปัจจุบัน โดยให้ความสำคัญกับความยั่งยืน Sustainability และการนำวัสดุเหลือใช้ Waste Material กลับมา Reuse ใหม่ในรูปแบบวัสดุใหม่
TCDC Nakhon Ratchasima is located in the heart of the old city, situated on a central axis that connects with key nodes and public spaces in the city. These include the Thao Suranaree Monument, the City Pillar Shrine, Wat Phra Narai Maharaj, and Suan Mak Night Bazaar. Given its potential and development opportunities, the design concept for TCDC is to create a “CREATIVE URBAN ROOM,” establishing itself as a space dedicated to transforming into a creative public area for the city. The design features transparent materials that facilitate an Urban Visual Connect between the interior and exterior spaces, allowing the public to witness the various creative activities happening at TCDC. Additionally, during the city’s creative festivals, the building is designed to open its large front doors to seamlessly connect the interior with the exterior, creating a continuous and borderless space.
The environment and physical characteristics of the buildings along Chomphon Road, where TCDC is located, are mostly commercial buildings or shophouses in a deteriorated state, primarily constructed with standard brick and plaster materials. Therefore, another key concept is the “CREATIVE USE OF LOCAL MATERIALS.” This involves researching local materials and craftsmanship inspired by local art, crafts, and architectural styles. Examples include the Korat-Chalerm Wattan wooden houses, which utilize interesting woodworking techniques, the construction of stone castles with sandstone, the weaving patterns of Korat silk, and the use of clay bricks or pottery from Dan Kwian, known for their unique colors and patterns. These inspirations guide the innovative reuse of materials in a new context, combining old and new materials and integrating traditional and modern construction techniques. Emphasis is placed on sustainability and the reuse of waste materials, transforming them into new forms.
