ในการออกแบบ #วันคาร เรื่องราวและเสน่ห์ความเรียบง่ายของวิถีชีวิตในพังงา ทำงานผ่านรายละเอียดของเฟอร์นิเจอร์ เครื่องหมายในงานสถาปัตยกรรม และการประยุกต์เครื่องใช้ต่างๆ ซึ่งได้นำเสนอภาษาทางสถาปัตยกรรมจากความเป็นอยู่ของผู้คนในบริบทท้องถิ่น ผลผลิตของการผสมผสานอิทธิพลจากความเชื่อจีนฮกเกี้ยนและการปรับตัวให้เข้ากับบริบททางกายภาพของพังงา องค์ประกอบและรายละเอียดเล็กๆเหล่านี้ กลับทำหน้าที่สร้างความเชื่อมโยงได้อย่างมีความหมาย

In creating Waankarn, the architecture is designed to let visitors experience the immediate sensory realities of Southern Thai living. We reinterpret this into a material-led modern spatial language, managing the tropical climate through strategic architectural apertures, tactile woodwork, and the moisture radiating from earth-bound masonry. It allows guests to intuitively feel how localized structures breathe and function.

WAANKARN
In creating Waankarn, Studio Locomotive realizes the hospitality facility as a hyperlocal threshold that serves as an invitation to discover the intricacies of local identity through careful readings of Takua Pa’s localized architectural efficiency and traceable vernacular integrity.

Embodying a sincere, accessible material vernacular and spatial continuity, the design focuses on a selection of a restrained, hard-wearing palette of raw finishes from terrazzo, granite slabs, bare concrete, rough-sawn timber, to hand-primed steel.

Restaurant programs serve as the hospitality anchor, inviting visitors to explore a sequence of halls organized around restaurant amenities and service flow. Serving as an accessible dining venue daily, Waankarn couples its hospitality with a hybrid exhibiting space through the network of corridors facilitating participatory community activities, allowing the architecture to transcend private ownership and play a meaningful role in serving the broader socio-spatial fabric.

การออกแบบวันคาร มาจากการมองเห็นถึงหน้าที่ของ hospitality space ในเมื่อการท่องเที่ยวดื่มกินในต่างวัฒนธรรม สามารถทำหน้าที่ดึงดูดและเป็นสะพานสู่การเริ่มต้นรู้จักวิถีชีวิต ความเป็นอยู่ หรือแม้แต่เชื้อสายร่องรอย ความเชื่อในบ้าน ของผู้คนในบริบทพื้นที่

รูปแบบอาคารวันคาร เกิดจากการปรับองค์ประกอบของอาคารครึ่งปูนครึ่งไม้ที่พบได้ทั่วไปในจังหวัดพังงา ซึ่งเป็นรูปแบบที่เกิดจากการประยุกต์และความเชื่อลูกผสมจีน ปรับตัวเพื่อให้เกิดความสบายตามภูมิอากาศและความร้อนชื้นของภาคใต้ สร้างจากวัสดุที่มีอยู่มากตามภูมิประเทศและอุตสาหกรรมในบริเวณนี้ เช่น ไม้เนื้อแข็งแบบที่ใช้ต่อเรือ ปูนขัด หินขัด หินแกรนิต และเหล็กที่ใช้ในอุตสาหกรรมเหมืองแร่

โดยออกแบบให้อาคารที่มีกิจกรรมหลักในการเป็นร้านอาหาร ที่ถูกแบ่งออกเป็นโถงๆตามการใช้งาน ถูกเชื่อมกันโดยทางเดิน ที่สามารถถูกใช้เป็นพื้นที่กิจกรรมจัดแสดงต่างๆได้ โดยไม่กระทบต่อกิจกรรมหลักของร้านอาหาร แต่เป็นบรรยากาศที่ส่งเสริมกันและกัน ด้วยปฏิสัมพันธ์ของพื้นที่ที่แยก-เชื่อมกัน ทำให้หน้าที่ของงาน hospitality architecture ก้าวข้ามขอบเขตของการเป็นเพียงพื้นที่ส่วนบุคคล แต่มีบทบาทในการเป็นพื้นที่ของชุมชนได้เพิ่มเติมด้วย
