From Measuring Light to Understanding It
Why LRS is Building an “Emotion-Aware Light” Ecosystem
For the past two decades, our industry has been obsessed with efficiency, controls and ambience.
Important, yes — but one key question has remained underexplored:
How does light quantitatively influence our biology, emotions and performance?
At Lighting Recipe Studio (LRS), this is exactly the gap we are working to close.
Not just how bright the light is, but how suitable it is for the human body and mind.
What we do at LRS
We focus on three pillars:
• 🧠 Brain & emotion lighting research
Using fMRI, EEG and HRV to understand how different spectra and dynamics affect brain regions related to mood, stress and cognition.
• 🌞 Circadian & healthy light environments
Translating CIE S026, WELL and other standards into practical design rules using metrics such as m-EDI, EML and CS.
• 📡 In.Licht measurement & data platform
With In.Licht Ultra / Pro / Well we measure spectra, flicker, glare risk and IAQ, turning “invisible risks” into visible data.
In short: we don’t just sell hardware.
We build the recipes and intelligence that make light healthier, smarter and more human-centric.
Our three-layer technology stack
1️⃣ Sensing & data — seeing light clearly
In.Licht devices quantify:
• Spectral power distribution (SPD)
• Illuminance, CCT, CRI / Rf / Rg
• Circadian metrics (m-EDI, EML, CS)
• Flicker metrics (waveform, SVM / Pst LM ready)
• Age-related visual adjustments
• IAQ (CO₂, TVOC, temperature, humidity) via In.Licht Well
We move beyond “xx lux” to a full picture of what this light does to eyes, biology and comfort.
2️⃣ Algorithms — from measuring light to understanding people
Built with universities and hospitals, our models include:
• Circadian models
Multi-spectral databases that predict the impact of real spectra on biological rhythms, applied in offices, schools and healthcare.
• Emotion Navigation models
Experiments linking CCT / colour / dynamics / flicker to brain activity, physiology and self-reported mood,
decomposing emotion into dimensions like happiness, arousal and serenity.
• Teacher–Proxy–Operational architecture
• Teacher: fMRI reveals true brain responses.
• Proxy: EEG, HRV, facial cues become practical signals.
• Operational: in real spaces, the system can steer light using environment data + these proxies.
The practical goal is simple:
“I want calm / focus / recovery”
becomes a command the lighting system can actually understand and execute.
3️⃣ Systems & applications — making it real in buildings
• Open APIs and standard protocols (DALI, Zigbee, BLE Mesh, etc.) to connect In.Licht data and our “light recipe engine” into BMS / LMS and smart-home platforms.
• Health & “emotion light” reports aligned with WELL, LEED and Good Light guidelines.
• Reusable scene modules for focus work, agile meetings, nurse stations, waiting areas, pre-sleep transition, and more.
IP as a moat, not a vanity metric
We are building a portfolio of 60+ patents and applications across China, Taiwan, the US and Europe, focused on:
• Sensing & devices
• Algorithms & databases
• Platforms & cloud
• Scene-based applications
Hardware can be copied.
But the language and logic that define “good light” – and the way it maps to data, algorithms and scenes – is where we build our moat.
Who we’d like to partner with
This post is not only an introduction. It’s also an open invitation.
We’re keen to collaborate with:
1. Research partners – universities, hospitals, labs
2. Technology licensees & co-IP partners – manufacturers wanting differentiated “healthy / emotion light” capabilities
3. Platform partners – BMS / LMS / smart-home / smart-hospital platforms
4. Solution partners – lighting brands, integrators, vertical specialists in healthcare, education, real estate, hospitality, senior living
5. Strategic transformation partners – companies moving from “selling fixtures” to “selling light as a service”
6. Standards & industry bodies – shaping the next generation of healthy / circadian / emotion-aware lighting standards
If you’re interested in exploring how emotion-aware light recipes could fit into your products, platforms or projects, we’d love to talk.

Let’s move the industry from “light that can be seen”
to light that genuinely understands – and supports – the people living in it. 💡🌱
