The evening of Friday 19th August, and after putting my car through its MOT in Coleraine, I decided to go down to the Giant's Causeway for sunset.
Unfortunately, so did 200 other people, and the stones were so overrun, that any meaningful attempt at photography would have been difficult at best.
So, since I'd driven all the way from Larne, and a possible Aurora sighting might be on the cards, I decided to wait it out. Sure enough, once the sun had dipped below the horizon, the crowds began to slowly melt away, and soon the numbers of people left were much more manageable.
A cloudless sky meant that there wasn't much to photograph on the direction of sunset, but looking the other way towards Lacada Point and the Chimney Stacks was a different proposition altogether! The whole cliff face seemed to be glowing with the warm orange afterglow of sunset, and was contrasting beautifully with the waters of the North Atlantic, which were pounding the stones beneath me.
I set the camera, and waited for a nice wave to break over the rocks, and this is the result. Nothing ground-breakingly new or unusual about the shot, but at least it's proof that I did get down to the Causeway that evening!!
