On Sunday, my kids miraculously played together quietly for more than an hour and I had a chance to finally bake up@some treats with my 3 homegrown Meyer lemons!

First I made lemon tea cookies with the zest, then some lemon curd with the juice and finally@some meringues to use up the egg whites leftover from the curd.

Now I have way too many cookies but it always feels like an epic accomplishment to actually use up all of what we grow.

I attempted to grow pumpkins this year but got them in the ground a little too late, so I'm glad we have locally grown pumpkin farms with plenty of entertainment for the kids!

This year we visit Chapman Farms a few times throughout the season to get corn and pumpkins. Do you grow your own pumpkins or prefer going to a local farm?

I grew a peach! It’s a very exciting thing that requires so much patience. I think gardening and homesteading can look beautiful but the reality is we have put in a ton of work to get this one fruit, from building fences, digging holes, watering and hoping we get the timing right.

Gardening has been a huge long lesson in patience and hope. Because I didn’t do all that work for one peach! We do it for all the future years hoping for we’ll get more and more peaches each year.

Summer feels a little chaotic so I have been feeling like I needed better organization. Picked up this little secretary desk/chest of drawers today second hand and it’s so sweet in the corner of our living room. A spot for art supplies and writing letters (ok, not something I EVER do but maybe now I’ll be inspired?)

It’s our 4th year on our property and I am loving all of the plants that self seed or continue to bear fruit year after year without much effort.

I have chamomile, calendula and California poppies all over the yard that i didn’t even plant! And of course i@love my berries that just keep taking up more and more space.

This year I’m trying to make more tea from strawberry leaves and other berry plants. has a great reel on how to do this yourself!

What’s growing in your garden?

Summer inches closer.

So, what is a handpie?

It’s a small flaky pie crust pastry that is filled with any variety of sweet or savory ingredients you can dream up from strawberry rhubarb to pumpkin and goat cheese. It’s an economical way to get high quality ingredients into the hands of locals and tourists at a competitive price point to a fast food lunch.

Our pies will be made with ingredients with low food miles and in support of small farms, not only by purchasing from them but by showcasing their products through high quality photography, video and content marketing. Our farmers will grow along with us on our journey. Customers will be able to order from a weekly changing menu online for pick up each “Pie Day Friday” or custom ordered for special events.

Our vision for Oh Hi Handpies feeds tourists and locals alike while creating a platform for showcasing wild crafters, farmers, and our local hard working agricultural businesses.
