The Ranch House Kitchen
All about height and space. Raising the ceiling without actually raising the ceiling. Job 1, raise cabinets up. Previously the top foot was drywall.... pulled that off and the cabinet boxes extended to ceiling, they had just covered it in drywall. Ok. New full length doors to cover it all. Job 2, replace hazardously low hood vent with more cranium friendly unit. Job 3, raise top of pass through window to office, and add hanging light. Job 4, remove doorway to old laundry room, move fridge to where washer was, and continue countertop/cabinets across fridges old spot. We kept most of the old cabinet boxes and just sanded/stained them, built new cabinets in pantry. New arabesque backsplash really set off the countertop. Upgraded the kitchen sink, recessed lights, and new under cabinet lighting. New pocket door to game room, and we took 24" of an inefficient bathroom cabinet, and put it in the pantry. With basically the same footprint and cabinet layout, I maxed space, efficiency, and gave the client a custom, designer kitchen they can be proud of. She's a beaut :)
