🐍 Before you hurt a small snake in the garden, take one second to look closer.
🌿 A common garter snake often has a slim body with 3 light stripes running down its back and sides. It is one of the most helpful snakes you can find around a yard.
🐌 It helps control slugs, snails, grubs, worms, insects, and other small pests that damage leaves, roots, and vegetable beds.
🪨 If you see one resting on stones, near leaves, or under logs, it is usually just warming up, hiding, or hunting quietly.
😟 If scared, it may try to escape, bluff, or release a bad smell. That does not mean it wants to attack you.
🚫 Please don’t grab it, hit it, or chase it. Just give it space and let it move away.
⚠️ If you are not 100% sure what snake it is, keep distance, keep pets and kids away, and let it leave safely.
