Hi friends! I want to take a moment to talk about what life can do to your succulents (plants in general). I am no exception to this. The last year has been quite a roller coaster and I want to be honest with y’all, since many of you are my customers. Here’s a quick recap of the last year and the series of events that caused some major plant neglect.
Everything was going great until May of last year. We hit rock bottom when I got covid and lost a great horse to a neurologic condition. We lost two more or our fur family from there, all about a month apart. If there is one thing you need to know about me, it is that my animals are my whole world and their health is my #1 priority. We rescued a starving horse after learning about her condition. We bought our first house! We packed up and moved to Aiken, South Carolina! We got a puppy! And then another (we’re nuts 😅)! To top it all off, we are expecting our first baby in January!
My poor succulents took a back seat through last year’s twists and turns. One of my succulent orders brought on a mealy bug infestation that I struggled to get under control (I have since learned the importance of a new plant quarantine). I stopped watering consistently. I did not take my own care advice. I lost probably half of my succulents through this. I am still fighting the mealy bugs and will not sell sick plants so this has left me out of commission until I can get these under control.
In the meantime, I will be taking SFS a bit of a different direction. I am going to be candid in the rehab of my plants. Until I can get to a point at which my plants are healthy enough to sell again.
Here, you see what happened to one of my most expensive arrangements. Between the mealy bugs, and the lack of water, I was left with one surviving plant and a huge mess.
Normally, I would not use stretched succulents (in this case, they stretched due to lack of water), but I figured it gave this quirky arrangement some added character! Now to just keep on top of my nemesis (mealys)!
Stay tuned for my next fixer upper!
