Mosaic Associates Architects is on-site at Crossgates Mall today building our 2025 entry!

This national design competition challenges teams to create massive sculptures entirely out of canned goods — all of which are donated to The Food Pantries for the Capital District.

After winning Best Original Design in 2024 for our Magic School Bus Tractor, we’re back with another bold build inspired by this year’s theme: “Lights, CANmera, Action!” 🎥

How can lighting impact learning? Our Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake CSD team collaborated with Allison Thayer of the Light and Health Research Center to explore this question specifically in the design of special education classrooms. April is Autism Awareness Month, and we couldn't be more excited than to share our timely published article about lighting in special education (SPED) classrooms. In collaboration with Mosaic Associates Architects, we designed new lighting systems in two SPED classrooms and completed a pilot study to determine the impact. A big thank you to the school administrators, teachers, and students, as well as Axis Lighting, SYLVANIA General Lighting, Cree Lighting, and Lutron Electronics for making this project possible. The Gene F. Haas Center for Advanced Manufacturing Skills received the American Institute of Architects NYS Excelsior Award recently. The Excelsior Award Program showcases the best in publicly-funded buildings, outdoor areas and public art across New York. John Onderdonk, principal of Mosaic Architects, the firm who designed the building, is shown with President Ramsammy. The Haas Center received an Award of Merit in the New Construction category.
