Molzen Corbin is honored to present this award to the New Mexico Department of Transportation Commission, Secretary, and District Engineer on behalf of the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. The recently completed I25-University Project just became the first infrastructure project in New Mexico history to be awarded an Envision Rating. Envision sets the standard for sustainable infrastructure. From its inception, sustainability has been the core focus of this project. The project received the Envision Silver rating and was a joint initiative with the New Mexico Department of Transportation, the City of Las Cruces, and New Mexico State University supported by the team of Molzen Corbin & Associates, Bohannan Huston, Inc. and other local companies.

Molzen Corbin is committed to designing sustainable infrastructure that improves the quality of life, demonstrating leadership in sustainability, using resources efficiently while protecting the environment and improving climate resilience. “I hope the success of this project will spur others in the state to advance their pursuit of sustainability as well,” states Melissa Peneycad, Managing Director, Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure.

At Molzen Corbin, we may be building public infrastructure like roads, runways, water tanks, and sewer lines, but we realize that beyond the bricks and mortar, we are truly building communities and the foundational infrastructure that allows them to grow and thrive. The I25-University ProjectUniversity project will have a major impact on the future of transportation in one of the busiest areas in Las Cruces, making the interstate exit and intersection safer, faster, and a more enjoyable experience for travelers. Most importantly, this project will serve as a symbol of what is possible for the City of Las Cruces community at large. From inception, this project reflects the vision, culture and values of the residents of Las Cruces by incorporating widely attended virtual public meetings by thousands of residents, to including a local artists touch on every component possible, to establishing a gateway to the city that makes everyone proud to live in Las Cruces whether they are driving, biking or walking through.

This past Wednesday, the ribbon cutting ceremony for the I25-University Project was a huge success thanks to all of those that attended and listened to the speakers introduced by NMDOT Communication Director, Marisa Maes: Lieutenant Governor, Howie Morales; NMDOT Deputy Secretary, Justin Reese; FHWA Division Director, Cindy Vigue, NMSU Chancellor Dan Arvizu; and Molzen Corbin’s own Chief Operating Officer, Jerry Paz.

Averaging about 23,000 passengers per month in 2019, the Santa Fe Regional Airport was showing clear signs that it had outgrown its existing facility. Molzen Corbin & Associates is currently working to design the terminal and parking lot expansions while remodeling the existing terminal.

Parking lot improvements include over 500 new spaces for short- & long-term parking, rental cars, and staff parking. Circular road improvements will include curbside and bypass circulation, cell phone waiting lane, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities. The terminal expansion comprises an additional departure/arrival gate, enlarged secure area, and baggage claim area showcasing local art. Construction is set to begin early next 2022 and conclude toward the end of the year. Check out some of the renderings our architecture team has developed to help you envision what the airport will look like by early 2023. Molzen Corbin & Associates is proud and honored to play a part in supporting New Mexico’s growing tourism industry.

A picture might be worth a thousand words, but we can’t imagine how many words it would take to express the magnificence Mike Provine’s award winning photography brings to mind. As one of our Vice Presidents and exceptional airport engineers, Mike balances his heavy workload by spending his weekends and free time capturing picturesque landscapes and exquisite miracles of nature through his camera lens. Often, we get to enjoy amazing shots he might have caught the weekend or evening before. We figured rather than keep them to ourselves, we might as well let his brilliance shine on your screen and hopefully brighten up your day like it does to ours! Enjoy and thank Mike for always discovering the beauty through what could easily be perceived as the mundane… especially in the world of engineering!?

Three decades ago, Molzen Corbin & Associates designed Sunport Boulevard from Interstate 25 heading east toward the Albuquerque International Sunport. More recently, our design team, in partnership with Bohannan Huston, Inc., worked on the Sunport Boulevard extension project to construct a new $20.3 million roadway extension west of I-25 that connects Sunport Boulevard to Broadway Boulevard.

This project not only completes a long-term vision that was more than a decade in the making but also brings new economic opportunities for surrounding communities while beautifying an underdeveloped part of the city toward creating a new gateway for visitors and residents to enjoy access to small and large businesses, restaurants, and entertainment venues.

We couldn't resist this opportunity to shine a spotlight on one of our multi-talented team members. Not only does Jonah excel as an engineer but he is literally blazing his own path by sprinting 13 miles at a 5:42 pace at the Gorges Ithica Half Marathon this past weekend. Wishing him success in the upcoming Chicago Marathon next month!

Our founders, Dayton Molzen and Al Corbin are both licensed pilots and soon after starting the company, they purchased a Cessna 310 as the company plane. Over the decades since, Molzen Corbin has built a solid reputation in New Mexico for designing and reinforcing the safety and efficiency of airfields throughout our state — from small general aviation airports such as Jal Municipal Airport, to the Albuquerque International Sunport, and to the runway at Spaceport America, the world's first purpose-built, commercial spaceport.

Last week, we had a blast with the middle and high schoolers participating in the Double Eagle Aviation Academy. The summer program strives to educate and inspire students to enter aviation-related careers. Our engineering intern, Zach, did an amazing job answering all their questions and keeping them engaged with some challenging test questions and paired with enticing prizes. Its been an honor over the last 10 years to be able to contribute to programs like this one, the future of aviation remains bright!
