catie radney art Artist The paintings of Catie Radney are the products of intense and intimate conversations spoken in the language of form, space, color and gesture.

An exuberant and impassioned artist, Catie is consumed with curious struggle of shaping image from the imagination. Her use of tonally consonant and contrasting color combined with vigorous brushwork, imbues Catie’s paintings with a complex emotional presence. While her paintings often feature forms or silhouettes, they are intimately about the act, the process of painting and perhaps how that ref

lects the process of living. Catie’s mission is to explore the painter’s struggle to breathe life into flat forms and through that process to reflect the physic rigors of the human condition. Her paintings are intimate but open, private but shared journeys.

People often ask what a painting is about, but I’m usually more interested in what it taught me while making it.

Every canvas leaves me a little different than it found me. More observant. More confused. More honest. More willing to trust what I don’t fully understand…

So I don’t have a clear and obvious answer for them… I paint because some things cannot be spoken plainly.

They have to be layered, obscured, revealed, painted over, and found again… and somewhere in that process we begin to understand ourselves a little better and hopefully it leaves us more connected too.

“I can become obsessed with every mark and brushstroke on the canvas. As if every mark is a note of music and they all have to come together to be coherent, like a symphonic composition – and then it will sing the song I want to sing.” — Suzy Murphy

Today I met a new neighbor and without thinking we naturally shook hands. We forgot. I ran Inside and washed my hands and I am sure he did too. I could not engage in the conversation. I was just fussing at myself for being careless.
It takes discipline not to touch. The disconnect feels lonely. .
