It’s Friday, which means it’s time for !

Today's Fact: Did you know that radon is the heaviest known gas in the world? It is actually about 7.5 times heavier than air!

Because it’s so dense, radon behaves a lot like water—it sinks, pools, and traps itself in the lowest points of your home, like basements and crawl spaces. That is why lower levels always test the highest!

If you spend a lot of time downstairs, keeping an eye on those radon levels is incredibly important for your peace of mind.

Did you know that running a dehumidifier will not lower your radon levels?

It’s a common mix-up! Because moisture and radon sneak into your home through the foundation, it’s easy to think one machine tackles both problems.

While a dehumidifier is great for pulling water out of the air to stop mold, it completely ignores radon gas. Radon requires a specialized mitigation system to physically vent it out from under your foundation and away from your home.

Think of it this way: Dehumidifiers handle the moisture, but Glacial Lakes Radon handles the air safety!

At Glacial Lakes Radon, we believe quality is in the details.

One thing we take seriously on every roof pe*******on: proper flashing installation and zero exposed fasteners whenever possible.

Unfortunately, we see a lot of roof flashing installs done incorrectly. A common issue is flashing that is simply surface-mounted, improperly layered, or fastened with exposed nails covered in roof sealant. While that may work temporarily, exposed sealant can dry out and fail over time.

Proper roof flashing should be installed correctly with the shingles — tucked under 3 shingle courses and laid over 2. That layering is what helps direct water properly and protects the roof long term.

At GLR, we take the extra time to cut and fit shingles properly so fasteners are concealed and protected beneath the roofing system whenever possible. It takes longer, but it creates a cleaner installation and helps extend the life of the flashing and roof pe*******on.

Most homeowners may never notice these details. We notice them every single day.
