One thing I’ve been thinking about lately as our home continues evolving is how important balance is in creating warmth and a touch of masculinity (which my husband is grateful for!)
For a long time, I naturally gravitated toward lighter tones, softness, florals, and feminine touches.
But recently, I’ve found myself being drawn into English Country books & magazines and craving more grounded elements that bring depth to a room like darker wood tones, woven textures, vintage pieces with weight and character, and fabrics that read more geometric and abstract, lending to a more layered cottage feel.
Rooms that feel the warmest & most lived in usually aren’t overly feminine or overly minimal.
They have a balance of
- Softness + structure.
- Lightness + depth.
- Collected pieces layered slowly over time.
This is honestly one of my favorite parts of the design process- the natural evolution that happens as a home begins reflecting its inhabitants. We’ve been living in homes together for 5 and a half years, going from combining his and hers styles to developing a style of OUR own!
This is also exactly why I’m so excited to be living in Mt Vernon, home of English and American antiques and helping homeowners in this neighborhood to create more personalized, layered homes!
Not to completely change the feeling of your home, just to deepen it.
