📣New York contractors: Act to prevent a refrigerant disaster

New York’s Part 494 regulation blocks last week’s EPA refrigerant relief from reaching New Yorkers. That’s not fair, and it’s just the beginning.

Part 494 will ban equipment using even the new A2L refrigerants — in 2027 for heat pump water heaters, in 2030 for VRF/VRV systems and chillers, and in 2034 for residential and light commercial heat pumps and AC.

Most alternatives run on highly flammable A3 refrigerants, like R-290 (propane), and are nowhere near ready for mass adoption.

Take action today to roll back this crippling regulation.

ACCA President and CEO Barton James spent the day in Gastonia, North Carolina with ACCA Bronze Member GSM Services, a family business that has been serving North Carolina homeowners since 1927. Companies like GSM are the backbone of our industry, and time spent face-to-face with members is one of the most valuable things ACCA leadership does.

These visits give us a direct line to the contractors we represent and ensure that the work happening in Washington reflects what's happening in the field. Thank you to the GSM team for the great visit!

ACCA Manager of HVAC Design Education Ed Janowiak was in Montpelier, Vermont last week teaching our Residential Design for Quality Installation class at the Associated General Contractors of Vermont's state chapter office.

Thanks to the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation and Li Ling Young for helping make it happen, and to the participants who joined us from Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. Rosie and Turbo kept the room in line.

Ed also managed a tour of the original Ben & Jerry's plant and got a line in the water around Burlington.
