🌳⚠️ **What Is a Codominant Stem?**
One of the most common structural problems we find in trees is something called a **codominant stem**.
A codominant stem occurs when a tree develops two main trunks of similar size growing from the same point 🌳🌳
At first glance, it may not seem like a problem—but over time, these stems can create a weak attachment point ⚠️🪵
Why does this matter?
❌ The stems often compete with each other for space and resources
❌ Bark can become trapped between them, creating a weak union
❌ The connection is more likely to split during high winds or storms ⛈️
❌ Large codominant stems can fail unexpectedly, causing property damage 🏡
The good news? 🌱
When identified early, proper pruning can often help reduce the risk and encourage stronger tree structure as the tree matures ✂️🌲
If you notice a tree with two large trunks growing from the same spot, it may be worth having it inspected 👀👷♂️
Strong tree structure today can help prevent costly problems tomorrow 💪🌳
