A shipping label is only one part of the real cost of shipping live plants.
When a plant seller charges for shipping, that price may also include boxes, insulation, filler, heat packs, labels, tape, packing time, gas, drop-off time, and the extra care needed to help a living plant survive a dark little box adventure.
I wrote this because I know buyers sometimes look at the postage label and wonder why the shipping charge was higher. Fair question. But plant shipping is not the same as mailing a mug or a T-shirt.
Live plants can freeze, cook, snap, spill, dry out, rot, or arrive stressed if they are not packed properly. So the real goal is not “cheapest possible.” The goal is safe arrival. And sellers, most probably, cover a big part of the cost.
