Principal-in-Charge Stephen Behrens shared insight into the design approach: “A lot of decisions go into the detailed design of a school building. The Child Career and Development Center at Great Valley is a facility tailored from the ground up for special needs students, educators, and support staff. A seemingly simple decision, such as the substrate of wall construction, demonstrates how successful design starts with the ‘bones’ of the building. As highlighted in the article, the use of concrete masonry units (CMU) in the new facility has a meaningful impact on safety, acoustics, and overall aesthetics.”
