🏡 Fence Planning 101

Before we ever start digging, we carefully plan out every project on paper (and satellite maps!) so our customers know exactly what’s going where.

🔹 Measurements – We measure each side of the property to get an accurate footage count.
🔹 Fence Types – This project combines two styles:
• 4’ Tampa Vinyl Picket (front yard for a welcoming look)
• 6’ Vinyl Privacy (backyard for security & privacy)
🔹 Gates – Every yard needs the right access points. Here we planned:
• 1 single gate for quick access
• 1 double gate wide enough for lawn equipment

By mapping it all out like this, homeowners know the exact layout, materials, and functionality before installation day. No surprises, just peace of mind.

👉 If you’re thinking about a new fence, remember: design + planning = long-term satisfaction.

Setting the Foundation for a Long-Lasting Fence 🛠️

Before any panels go up, a quality fence starts with properly set posts. In this photo, you can see the early stage of a vinyl fence installation — each post hole is carefully measured, spaced, and dug to the correct depth. This ensures the fence will be straight, secure, and able to handle wind, weather, and daily use.

Key steps at this stage:
• Accurate Layout: String lines and markers keep everything perfectly aligned.
• Proper Depth & Concrete: Posts are set deep enough and secured in concrete to prevent shifting over time.
• Attention to Spacing: Even spacing keeps the fence panels fitting correctly and looking professional.

Taking the time to get the groundwork right is the difference between a fence that lasts decades and one that fails in just a few years.

Did you know we install fences year-round?

We’ve had mild winters the past few years, and that means our crews can keep working—even in January. The ground rarely freezes in our area, which makes winter installs not only possible but surprisingly smooth.

So if your budget is lined up after the holidays, don’t feel like you have to wait until spring. Booking a winter install means you’ll be ahead of the spring rush—and you’ll be enjoying your fenced-in yard before most people even get on the schedule.

It may be summer now, but we’re already thinking ahead so you don’t have to.

📲 Reach out if you’d like to talk about winter availability!

Ever wonder what those spray-painted lines in your yard are before a fence install?

They’re not graffiti — they’re life-savers.

Before any digging happens, utility companies are called out to mark the location of underground lines like gas, electric, water, sewer, and internet. This process is required by law in Pennsylvania and is done through PA One Call (also known as 811).

Why does this matter?
• Striking a gas or electric line can be extremely dangerous.
• Damaging a utility line can knock out service to your home — or your entire neighborhood.
• Hitting a buried cable or pipe can result in costly repairs and delays.

Even if you “know where things are,” these lines may not be where you think — or they may have been moved or added over the years.

Calling before you dig is a simple step that protects your property, your safety, and your neighbors.

The markings might not be pretty, but they’re a critical part of doing the job safely and responsibly.

🐾 Customer of the Week: Decker! 🐾

This week’s VIP (Very Important Pup) is Decker — one of our four-legged friends who loves his yard just as much as we love building fences! 🐶

At Red Gate Fencing, we know dogs are more than pets — they’re family. That’s why so many of our fences are built with our furry customers in mind, giving them a safe place to play, explore, and enjoy the sunshine.

Here’s to you, Decker — thanks for being such a good boy and making our job that much more rewarding! ❤️🐕

Some fencing companies won’t install wood fences anymore. They say things like “It doesn’t last a lifetime” or “We only do vinyl or aluminum.”

At Red Gate, we still build wood fences — and we actually love doing them.

Not everyone wants the look of vinyl or aluminum. Some people just prefer the natural look of wood. Others have a specific price range in mind, and a wood fence fits that goal perfectly.

A well-built wood fence can give you years of privacy, safety, and curb appeal. And with the right care, it can hold up beautifully.

Here’s why we still believe in wood:
✅ Timeless, natural look
✅ More flexibility with style and size
✅ Easy to repair or update
✅ Cost-effective option for many homeowners

Wood might not last forever — but it’s still a great choice. And it’s one we’re proud to offer.

🎥 Behind the Scenes with Scott
This project had a few extra layers—removing shrubbery and adjusting the fence line called for more than just photos. So Scott recorded a quick video to explain everything clearly for both our crew and the homeowner.

We upload these videos directly into the job’s CompanyCam file so everyone stays on the same page. It’s just one more way we go the extra mile to keep our customers informed and make sure our crew is set up for success.

✅ Transparency. ✅ Communication. ✅ Red Gate.

💬 Let’s Talk Transparency — Especially with Pricing

At Red Gate Fencing, we believe in zero surprises when it comes to your fence estimate. That’s why we walk you through every option and explain how each one affects your price.

For example:
Thinking of upgrading from classic white vinyl privacy to tan or charcoal? Expect about a 15–20% price increase depending on the style and color.

Why the jump? Colored vinyl is a special order product. It costs more to produce, ship, and install—but it can also be a stunning upgrade to boost your curb appeal.

We’ll always help you weigh the pros and cons so you can make the right decision for your home and your budget. That’s the Red Gate way. 🙌

🔨 Concrete is Concrete… Right? Not Exactly.

Let’s talk about what actually holds your fence in place — the concrete.

At Red Gate, we don’t cut corners with our footers. We aim for 130–150 pounds of concrete per post hole, no matter what type of project we’re on.

So why do you sometimes see different size bags on our jobs?

✅ 80 lb standard mix – Used on most vinyl and wood fence installs. Strong, reliable, and built to last.
✅ 50 lb fast-setting mix – Used for smaller projects or when we need to wrap things up in one day. It sets quicker but still gives you the same solid footing when used in the right quantity.

Whether it’s a full perimeter install or just a few panels and gates, the size of the bag doesn’t matter — the total amount of concrete per hole does. And we never skimp.

📸 We even document our install process using CompanyCam, so you can see every step for yourself.

That’s just part of how we build fences the Red Gate way.

🛠️ Clear Communication. Better Fences. 🏡

Here in the valley, we’re stepping things up.

At Red Gate Fencing, we now create a custom sketch for every project — built right on-site while we’re working up your quote. After walking the yard and measuring with you, we head to the truck and draw out your full layout so you can see:

📍 Exactly where the fence will go
🚪 Where your gates are placed
🧱 How everything ties together

We show you the sketch and quote together so there are no surprises — just a clear, confident plan moving forward.

We’re proud to bring this level of care and transparency to every job we do here in the Lehigh Valley. It’s one more reason our customers trust Red Gate.
