About six months ago my brother in law, my wife’s little brother, came to me and asked for a job so he could toughen up and get conditioned for the United States Marine Corps.

The answer was, ABSOLUTELY

James came to us fresh out of high school knowing almost nothing about the tree care industry, which honestly is the best place to start. No bad habits to break, just a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn. His brain was a sponge and he showed up every day ready to work.

When James started he weighed 107 lbs.
Today he left for boot camp at Parris Island weighing nearly 140 lbs, stronger in body, stronger in mind, and tougher than ever.

James is family, a coworker, and a friend. We could not be more proud of the man he has become and the choice he has made to serve our great nation. I have no doubt he will make a great Marine.

James, we wish you nothing but success.

East Walnut Hills Crane Removal — Coordinating With Duke Energy for a Safe and Efficient Project

This week our team at R. W. Aufderheide & Son Tree Removal Experts completed a challenging removal in East Walnut Hills. The tree work itself was not the difficult part. The real challenge came from the logistics, and our crew handled it the same way we handle every complex job, with confidence and experience.

The home is more than one hundred years old and is undergoing a full renovation. Before the homeowners invest in the transformation, they wanted all hazardous and liability trees addressed. The issue was that there was no safe access for traditional equipment because of the layout of the property and the surrounding neighborhood.

The only workable solution was to bring in a 40 ton crane positioned in the street, with high tension, non insulated power lines directly between the crane and the trees.

To ensure the highest level of safety, we partnered with Duke Energy. They coordinated a controlled outage in our work zone and even back fed the surrounding houses so only our client’s home went without power. Since the home is currently under renovation and not using electricity, this solution worked perfectly. It was a great example of proper planning and teamwork.

On 11/24/25, with the lines safely de energized, our crew completed the front yard catalpa and cedar removals in about six hours. The job went smoothly, efficiently and exactly the way it should.

This project actually began the week before, when we removed a large rotten catalpa from the back corner, pruned the massive pin oak off and away from the flat roof, cleared the structure so the new roof could be installed safely, and reduced the overall liability before renovation work begins.

Every step was important in making sure this historic home is protected before the major investment goes into the renovation.

Strong planning, the right equipment and a skilled crew made this project successful from start to finish.
