Some history for the weekend…
The Gove family has a rich, multi-generational legacy of fueling, supplying, and serving the City of Amesbury, Massachusetts. For well over a century, successive generations of the family have operated prominent downtown fixtures keeping local homes warm and running.
1. Oscar T. Gove Hardware
The Origin:
Great-great-grandfather Oscar T. Gove initially established the family's footprint in local commerce.The Business: Operating right out of Amesbury's historic Market Square, he supplied local residents with hardware tools and home heating solutions.Historical Impact: As early as the 1930s and 1940s, the Gove name became synonymous with early home heating oil innovations, acting as a prominent regional dealer for advanced GE oil furnaces.
2. KENGO Gas
The Shift:
Keeping up with changing times, subsequent generations of the Gove family transitioned to provide broader heating fuel and gasoline options.The Business: Under the KENGO Gas moniker, the family remained local leaders in the distribution of residential heating fuels and petroleum products to families throughout the Merrimack Valley.
3. Dad’s Burner Service LLC
The Modern Era:
The legacy continues today with Mitchell Gove, owner and operator of Dad's Burner Service LLC.The Connection: Mitchell's modern HVAC and oil burner repair shop operates less than a half-mile away from where his great-great-grandfather Oscar originally ran the hardware store.Services: By offering direct diagnostic oil burner services, annual cleanings, and emergency boiler repairs, the newest generation directly mirrors the home heating solutions started by the family nearly a century ago.
