Chameleon TLM vs Asunta 5 TLM

I'm beyond suprise how good the taste is & how beautiful the dual tones look from these 2 varieties!!

Chameleon
- Dual tone flesh: white in center, bright fuschia on the outer part.
- Taste like melon & berry mix, slight tartness blending in with sweetness. Very juicy. Taste pretty exotic.

Asunta 5
- Dual tone flesh: bright fuschia in center, dark red toward outside.
- Very smooth texture, kind of like white sapote mix with cantaloupe. No tartness, therefore it brings the sweet taste up a level. More frequent epsom salt, plus maturity will definitely improve its sweetness. This one tastes even more exotic than the Chameleon & very juicy too. A definite keeper!!

I'm nervous & so excited at the same time to cut open & see how it looks like inside & how it tastes like!! Are you ready?? Stay tune.....

My Chameleon is about to change the color. Same goes with Tricia. It's a great feeling to see the transition in their colors after 30-35 days. For best taste, I usually pick between the 10th-15th day after it turns color. And last but not least, don't forget to place it in the friz for half a day prior to eating. The best!! 👍👍

Orejona vs Tricia

Each year the sweetness is increased by 1 level. Orejona was only 17.9 last year. It is 19.0 this year 2022. Beautiful Tricia starts out 1st fruit at 20.3, not bad!!

TRICIA
She is so beautiful !! The yellow & deep magenta/fuschia sepals popped out at night as a base to cover the pure white petals. Fruits are enlarging everyday & still in developing stage. It's about 30 days so far. Lost a dozen buds due to moving last month but nearly 10 new buds on the way coming out.

TIP #8 - COLLECT & STORE DF POLLEN

It's that time of the year when the first wave of DF flowers begin to bloom. Some varieties are self pollinating, meaning the stigma is short enough to touch the anthers so you dont have to worry about hand pollinating. But some have a long stigma that need a little help to develop fruit, or in some cases, require cross pollinating (self-sterile variety) from another variety to increase the chance for fruit setting & size.

Best time to collect pollen is around 8-10pm

Use any non-stick aluminum bowl & large enough to cover the diameter of the flower.

A soft nylon non-stick fan brush is used to collect pollen. A smaller fluffy brush (the type that can stick the makeup powder) is used for hand pollinating (see photos)

Once collecting is done, put small portion of pollen into each small ziplok bags, label it, seak it, throw them in a larger ziplok bags, add a few moisture absorbed bags inside to keep it dry at its max & seal it. Store it in the fridge & good to use for a whole month. I normally run out of it in less than a month & I never save it in the freezer to use for next year.

Note:
*Each time when I take a small bag out to use, I only use once or twice once opened. Throw the remaining pollen away if there is any left.
*Small bags in a larger bag will reduce moisture developing inside the smaller bags. Moisture absorbed packs inside the large bag will keep the inside even drier.
*There are many ways to collect pollen. It depends on what you have available & your creativity. This works fine for me so I've been using it for years.
