🌳 Celebrating Arbor Day in Stockton! 🌳

A couple of weeks ago, West Coast Arborists was proud to participate in Stockton's Arbor Day celebration, connecting with residents and promoting the importance of urban forestry.

We were honored to welcome Mayor Christina Fugazi to our booth, where she expressed her appreciation for the work WCA does in the community and took the oath to plant and care for her very own "Chloe's Tree." 🌱

Thank you to everyone who joined in celebrating the value of trees and the positive impact they have on our neighborhoods for generations to come.

Last Friday in Whittier, CA. the West Coast Arborists crew responded to a bird rescue after a fledgling Raven fell from its nest in a Palm tree scheduled for trimming. The team had originally postponed the work to protect the nest, and thanks to a resident who spotted our "Bird Nesting in Tree" sign and contacted us, the young bird was safely renested. A great example of how WCA crews stay vigilant for nesting wildlife in partnership with our customers and residents to help protect urban birds.

From delivering expert Plant Health Care services throughout Southern California, to growing through the ranks with dedication and leadership, to keeping the Urban Wood shop running with unmatched craftsmanship and reliability — Manny Tafoya, Rey Acevedo, and John “Skipper” Stratford exemplify the hard work, professionalism, and commitment that drive our teams forward every day. Thank you for everything you do for West Coast Arborists!

Manny Tafoya - Plant Health Care

Manny has been with WCA for a year as a Plant Health Care Arborist. In that time, he has shown his commitment to excellence by taking on multiple travel jobs in Southern California. He can perform a variety of work types such as data collection and treating trees for insects and disease.

Rey Acevedo - North San Diego

I would like to formally nominate Rey for Employee of the Month in recognition of his exemplary work ethic and dedication. Since joining WCA, Rey has demonstrated remarkable growth—beginning as a groundman and advancing to a trimmer within a short period of time. He consistently exhibits a strong commitment to improvement, actively seeks opportunities to learn, and approaches his work with a positive and proactive attitude. Rey’s ambition and professionalism position him well for future advancement, with clear potential to take on a foreman role.

John Stratford - Urban Wood

From trophies and plaques to benches, chairs, dining tables, and everything beyond John Stratford, better known as Skipper, is the steady hand that keeps the Urban Wood shop running smoothly. John doesn’t just react to problems he anticipates the next move, sets the team up for success, and makes sure work flows efficiently from one step to the next. What truly sets John apart is his reliability and consistency. When something needs to get done right, on time, and with care, John is the person we count on. His craftsmanship, attention to detail, and calm approach allow complex projects to come together seamlessly, even under pressure. Urban Wood’s success is built on people like John people who see the whole picture, support the team, and quietly make excellence the standard. We simply couldn’t do this without him.

📣Shoutout to ! 📣
We love hearing from our community partners about the impact of dedicated tree care and vegetation management.

Here’s some thoughtful feedback we recently received from the City of San Diego following our GIS Assistant, Christan McElory, and his collaboration on their tree inventory systems. 🌳💚

From Pennsylvania roots to helping lead urban forestry efforts across multiple states, this week’s employee spotlight highlights a true passion for trees, people, and community impact. 🌳

With 27 years in the arboriculture industry and 23 years at WCA, Regional Vice President Mike Palat has dedicated his career to preserving and enhancing urban forests while helping teammates grow along the way. A graduate of Penn West University, his journey into urban forestry was inspired by a lifelong appreciation for nature and a desire to make a meaningful difference in communities.

What keeps him motivated after more than two decades at WCA? Seeing the positive impact our teams make every day and watching employees build successful careers through hard work and collaboration.

Outside of work, you’ll find him spending time with his wife Hollie and their kids, enjoying disc golf, fishing, backpacking, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, or playing his guitar crafted from recycled street trees. 🎸🌲
