Now under construction in Kotzebue, early progress is underway on the Maniilaq Employee Housing project designed to support the people who make care possible in one of the most remote regions of Alaska.
In the Northwest Arctic, access to healthcare depends on individuals willing to serve in challenging and often isolated conditions. This project is being built with them in mind—not just as housing, but as a place that will feel like home. At 47,079-sf, the development will include 48 one-bedroom units and shared spaces designed to support daily routines, connection, and wellbeing.
As the structure takes shape, the hybrid mass timber system is already visible—bringing warmth, natural materiality, and a sense of quality to the spaces. It’s an approach that supports durability and efficient construction, while creating an environment people can feel.
Even at this stage, the intent is clear:
a place that holds up to the environment,
supports life outside of work,
and gives people a reason to stay.
Because in communities like Kotzebue, employee housing isn’t separate from care—it’s how you sustain the people delivering it, strengthen healthcare access, and support community wellbeing.
