It’s 10:22 p.m. as I write this.

He’s been going since morning—chores first thing, then on to whatever the day took him. Truthfully, I couldn’t even tell you which field he was in today or what piece of equipment he worked on. When I’m at the greenhouse, I only hear the sounds of tractors, trucks, and machinery coming and going.

I send a text when dinner is ready.

He comes in, sits down for a few brief moments, eats, and then heads right back to the barn.

July is coming.

For weeks now, the evenings have belonged to the cattle. Every night counts.

And it will be every. single. night. until showtime.

It’s a season of sacrifice.

So tonight, while I watch from afar, the barn lights are still on.

Goodnight barn. Goodnight cattle.

Hello June 🌿

The season has officially rounded the corner. For the first time in months, I have a chance to look ahead to the next three months. As I opened my calendar today, it was a little overwhelming, meetings, conferences, personal engagements, trips to Lansing, and all the odds and ends that come with my profession.

I’ll have roughly 30 days to finalize plant selections and secure exactly what I want for the 2027 season. Any later, and I’m rolling the dice on availability.

With spring behind us, I’m officially shifting into the next gear—learning. Tours, conferences, and industry events will soon fill my calendar as I search for new ideas, new varieties, and new ways to improve.

I’m excited for what’s ahead and look forward to sharing the newest plants, trends, and discoveries with all of you. Here’s to a season of growth, learning, and planning for the future.

Definitely a longer read.

Through the years, I have seen many generations of families come through the greenhouse. In that time, I have sadly lost some who were with me from the very beginning. As I watched the process of aging year after year, and saw more individuals fighting horrible diseases, I knew things needed to change.

Twenty-one years ago, when we built the greenhouse, concrete was not in the budget. We started little by little. Finally, the biggest pour of all happened within the last five years. This was deeply important to me for those with mobility challenges.

The wide “runway,” as I call it, allows our friends to enjoy an outing and shop more comfortably and equally, as I can make it.

When you choose to shop with me, I aim to make your experience as enjoyable and accessible as possible.

Because of you, last year I was able to invest in a battery-powered scooter for our friends to use while shopping. It has been heartwarming to see the smiles on the faces of those who use it, but even more so, the relief on the faces of family members and caregivers.

I see you.

I see the strength it takes every single day to fight a disease or to care for a loved one. I hope this small addition to HillTop helps make your visit a little easier, a little more comfortable, and a little more joyful.

As we walk into Sunday, I would like to say thank you to the HillTop team for all your hard work. The greenhouse would not be what it is without you. You are the heart of what makes HillTop what it is.

We’ve been busier than ever, and you’ve handled it so well. I’m so very proud of each of you. 🥹

As I look around, I see each of you finding your way in your lanes — planting, table work, assisting customers, and running the front workstation. A fun-loving and cohesive team. 💛🌱

I am a proud wife and mamma every day; however, last night the news came that all the field corn for the 2026 season is officially planted. 🎉

The weeks leading up to planting season are filled with the sounds echoing from the barn, grease guns clicking, tools scattered, and clothing equally covered in grease. The preparation leading up to planting is paramount. Safety for the operator, the equipment, and the public matters every step of the way as machinery travels along the roads heading to the fields. 🚜

The days of corn planting were long. Early mornings. Late nights. It’s simply what we do as farmers.

If you happened to be in the parking lot as equipment moved through, thank you for your patience while my husband and son made their way between fields.🥹

And a special thank you to the friends who delivered food, parts, or seed to the men in my life during the rush of planting season. We are incredibly thankful for our circle. 🌽
