I am often asked, “how do you do it [design]”?

In my brain I answer, ‘I’m not sure I can explain it. I just do.’ It’s the same wonder I have for people who can do things I can’t. Like, how do you know how to build a house? Or fix a car? Those two skills blow my mind!

Let me do my best to walk you through this process, in a simplified way…
•Client likes green. They said they don’t want too bold, but they like color. And wallpaper. And wood. They want a kitchen renovation.
• I start with a color palette that the client likes.
• I find a pattern that pulls the palette together (wallpaper in this instance)
• I build the rest of the room (tile, flooring, counter) so as to complement the wallpaper
• I add warmth and contrast with the wood
• every room needs some life (ie plant)
• texture is important (fabric for seating in this case)

Scroll to see ‘before’ and then ‘how these elements came together in my brain’.
