If your pool has been getting hammered with afternoon showers, don't panic—but don't ignore it either.
Here's what we recommend during these hot, rainy weather patterns:
✅ Run your pool 24/7 if possible. Continuous circulation helps filter out debris, dead algae, pollen, and everything else the rain washes into your pool.
✅ Keep your sanitizer levels up. Your sanitizer is what keeps your water clean and safe to swim in. Depending on your pool, that may be:
• Chlorine
• Salt-generated chlorine
• Baquacil Sanitizer
• Other approved sanitizing systems
Rain dilutes your water and can quickly reduce sanitizer effectiveness, so test often and replenish as needed.
✅ Empty skimmer baskets often. Leaves, bugs, and storm debris can clog circulation and reduce filtration efficiency.
✅ Brush the pool weekly. Warm temperatures and frequent rain create the perfect conditions for algae to begin growing on walls, steps, and ladders.
✅ Bring in a water sample. Even if your water looks clear, rain can throw your chemistry out of balance before you ever see a problem.
⚠️ The biggest mistake we see this time of year is turning the pump off to "save electricity." A few dollars in power costs is a lot cheaper than fighting a green pool. During extended rainy weather, continuous circulation is your best friend.
💦 A clear pool is much easier to keep clear than it is to turn clear again.
